Understanding the situation is very important when you make your move for self defense. If it is a serious situation, there is no time to play. You can use your jacket as an improvised weapon to defend yourself.

When it comes to a knife attack, should you use a jacket as an improvised weapon? Today we are going to talk about that. Welcome back to Self Defense Situation - Part 73. In this series of posts, we usually talk about different situations and what you can do to defend yourself and get back home safe.

Let's watch the video. This is not my video and all video credit goes to Nick Drossos.

When you face a knife attack, this is a serious situation. You can learn some self defense against a knife attack, but when you deal with a situation for real, the attacker can attack you in different ways.

You are not trying to do something cool or fancy for self defense. If you do something like that, it will make the situation worse. The moment you see the attacker is going to draw his knife, it is better to stop him right there. When he has the knife on his hand, the situation will be changed.

Whatever you do, timing is very important. It takes some time to take your jacket off and grab it on your hand. If you have the time and distance, you can do that.

You can use your jacket from distance and attack the attacker. In case the attacker gets close to you, you will not find the jacket very useful against the knife attack, I think.

If you understand the attacker's intention, that's better. You can use your jacket to hit the attacker's face and other parts of the body to discourage him so that he does not attack you anymore or you get some time to make your next move and run.

So what do you think of using a jacket as an improvised weapon against a knife attack? Please feel free to comment below.
