The new Skatepark of Monforte de Lemos is almost ready to skate. Today we visited to see what state the works are in, how they have distributed the modules and I am sorry to write that I was afraid of something like this.
When they announced it at first I thought, they are finally doing something and how great for the young people here! And for any old man like me. In a second moment I also thought, to know what they do and how it ends.
They published the plans and well, I didn't paint too bad on paper, as long as you didn't study them in detail.

I know first-hand that the contact details of an Architect who knows about Skateparks has been passed to the city council. Specifically that of Daniel Yábar, who among others has designed the Skate Plaza de Santiago which is a luxury.

But it seems that they decided to look for a plan on the internet, cut the size somewhat and award the work to those who suit them best. In this case, a company that normally builds office buildings, pavilions, etc.

I came across this image on Google, of a plane that looks suspiciously like the result for "Mordor." The difference is that this plan is 486 square meters. Let's say double what they have built here in Monforte.

In the first place, I think they fell a bit short with the size, 253 square meters in particular. Thinking that the playground in front of it was expanded from 950 to 1650 square meters.

Secondly, they have put too much in little space, and some things that are left over directly. Since they don't really add anything, they just make a lot, I imagine especially in the budget and in the pocket of the person who sold them the ramps.

Like the "Double Ramp" that is between a "Quarter" and the "Bank", it is too big, since with the height it has and the little space it bothers more than it contributes. Although the same may be useful for some Biker, I do not know that since I do not practice BMX and I cannot comment.
But I'm speaking from a Skater point of view.

Probably what I like the most is the little box they planted in the middle. I think that that gives some play although I repeat the space is very limited in general. Well, the «Rail» is high and you don't have space on both sides to catch some speed or land well, because either you eat the dirt at the end of the Park or the box in the middle.

The Miniramp / Halfpipe is fine, although it is quite narrow and for beginners that is more difficult. Since to turn when you get to the top you need to have some practice, to give a clean 180 turn. And it's easy to get out if you can't.

What I do not understand is why they left those stripes around it, with a lot of space that could have been better used for the park. As you can see in the next two photos. Basically the usable area could have been doubled like this.

In short, it is one more option to skate in this city. But I think I prefer to continue skating the little Street Spots that there are, although I will go from time to time to skate it.

It is sad that they never count on the people who know about it, nor on the local Skaters in any way when they raise these Projects. I hope that the next soccer field will be made by a company specialized in industrial containers or in shop window decoration.

And as soon as you can skate, we will tell you what the experience was.

El nuevo Skatepark de Monforte de Lemos ya está casi listo para patinar. Hoy lo hemos visitado para ver en que estado se encuentran las obras, como han repartido los módulos y lamento tener que escribir que temía algo así.
Cuando lo anunciaron en un primer momento pensé, por fin hacen algo y que genial para la gente joven de aquí! Y para cualquier aficionado viejuno como yo. En un segundo momento también pensé, a saber que hacen y como termina eso.
Publicaron los planos y bien, no pintaba ni tan mal sobre el papel, siempre que no los estudiaras en detalle.

Sé de primera mano que se le ha pasado al ayuntamiento los datos de contacto de un Arquitecto que sabe de Skateparks. En concreto el de Daniel Yábar, que entre otros ha diseñado la Skate plaza de Santiago que es todo un lujo.

Pero parece que decidieron buscarse algún plan en internet, recortar algo el tamaño y adjudicar la obra a los que mas le convenga. En este caso a una empresa que normalmente se dedica a construir Edificios de oficina, pabellones etc.

Me he encontrado con esta imagen en Google, de un plano que se parece sospechosamente al resultado de «Mordor». La diferencia es que este plano tiene 486 metros cuadrados. Digamos el doble de lo que han construido aquí en Monforte.

En primer lugar pienso que se quedaron algo cortos con el tamaño, 253 metros cuadrados en concreto. Pensando que el parque infantil que hay enfrente lo ampliaron de 950 a 1650 metros cuadrados.

En segundo lugar han metido demasiado en poco espacio, y algunas cosas que sobran directamente. Ya que no aportan nada en realidad, solo hacen bulto, imagino sobre todo en el presupuesto y en el bolsillo de quien les ha vendido las rampas.

Como la «Doble Rampa» que esta entre una «Quarter» y la «Bank», es demasiado grande, ya que con la altura que tiene y el poco espacio molesta mas de lo que aporta. Aunque igual para algún Biker puede servir, eso lo desconozco ya que no práctico BMX y no puedo opinar.
Pero estoy hablando desde un punto de vista Skater.

Probablemente lo que mas me gusta es el pequeño cajón que plantaron en el medio. Creo que ese da algo de juego aunque repito el espacio está muy limitado en general. El «Rail» pues bueno, entre que es alto y no tienes espacio en ambos lados para pillar algo de velocidad o aterrizar bien, porque o te comes la tierra al final del Park o el cajón que hay en el medio.

La Miniramp / Halfpipe está bien, aunque es bastante estrecha y para los principiantes eso es mas difícil. Ya que para girar cuando llegas arriba necesitas tener algo de práctica, para dar un giro de 180 limpio. Y es fácil salirte si no lo logras.

Lo que no llego a entender es porque dejaron esas franjas alrededor, con mucho espacio que se podría haber aprovechado mejor para el park. Como podéis ver en las siguientes dos fotos. Básicamente se podría haber doblado la superficie útil así.

En fin, es una opción más para patinar en esta ciudad. Pero creo que prefiero seguir patinando los pequeños Street Spots que hay, aunque iré de vez en cuando a patinarlo.

Es triste que nunca cuenten con la gente que sabe de eso, ni con los Skaters locales de ninguna manera cuando plantean estos Proyectos. Espero que el próximo campo de fútbol lo haga una empresa especializada en contenedores industriales o en decoración de escaparates.
