The traditional New Years Eve game at the Adelaide Oval sees early pacesetters the Sydney Thunder and Adelaide Strikers lock horns. There will certainly be fireworks after the game but will we see them on the pitch?

As the stats above suggest, this venue tends to throw up some high scoring affairs and both these teams have in form batting line-ups that could well take advantage of those conditions. The home team have Jake Weatherald, Jono Wells and current yellow cap wearer Alex Carey in their line-up as well as English import Phil Salt who finally came to the party in the win in Melbourne yesterday. On the other side, the Thunder boast international calibre players in their top order including Usman Khawaja, Alex Hales and Callum Ferguson.

These 2 teams have met once already this season with a nearby bushfire causing the match to be abandoned with the Thunder well set in their run chase. The Thunder then tied their next outing against the Sixers and lost the resulting super-over so while they have lost a bit of that early momentum they can return to the top of the table with a win here tomorrow night. The Strikers meanwhile know that victory for them would put them 3 points clear at the top and 5 points clear of 5th place in the hunt for a spot in the knockout phase.

Entries for this competition close at 8:00am GMT on Tuesday, 31st December

Now I just need Thunder to restrict Strikers to 136 or less

Well when Valente and White were out in quick succession that was looking like a possibility!

Yet somehow the Thunder almost snatched defeat from the jaws of victory!!

Personally I thought the Strikers got their tactics wrong. If there wasn’t 2 on that penultimate ball then Rashid Khan shouldn’t have run, he should have backed himself to hit 6 to win or 4 to take it to a superover
