Brazilian Jui Jitsu + Yoga = Active Recovery

avatar

Saturday is sacred for me as I snap my head out of the business world a bit and celebrate some time on the mats with my Jits Family http://stratfordbjj.com/. So, continuing the theme I started a while ago with the White Belt Curriculum series, I am back again this Saturday to spread some wisdom and active recovery from another friend at the academy.

As a review, https://steemit.com/steemitbjj/@zekepickleman/white-belt-bjj-curriculum-all-in-one-place I am proud to have taken the time to put our entire White Belt Curriculum on the blockchain for anyone to learn. I have also posted about this Brad here in case you would like to know the man who will choke you out, and then stretch you out after a week of BJJ https://steemit.com/powerhousecreatives/@zekepickleman/35hw1z-i-know-a-guy

Last week's session focused upon the hips and back which was awesome for me being in the masters age division. https://steemit.com/bjj/@zekepickleman/brazilian-jui-jitsu-yoga-active-recovery

Hamstrings and Back

This week, Brad works with the morning warriors in the Weds am class to loosen up some generally problematic muscles mid week. The flow between positions almost feels like a slow pace but high impact stretching drill. I find it amusing that I can fight through sequential 5-minute sparring match fairly nicely but a few seconds breathing through the downward-dog pose is a huge challenge.

Spend 26 minutes stretching and breathing and balancing with this gentle killer and you will feel tired, humbled a little, and sleep like a log if you are like me.

Having the chance to stay on the mats for an extra 30 minutes with a master like this is a real gift for folks at the academy. I enjoy it for its convenience (as I am already there and in need of a good stretch) and effectiveness after a hard class of fun.

Hopefully I help some folks out there by sharing some good yoga and even inspire some folks to find an academy to learn BJJ and enjoy some Active Recovery.

Yah man.

Not being a spring chicken, I need to keep the muscles long and loose or they will start snapping.

It wouldn't let me reply all day yesterday! Boo-hiss!

This is absolutely fabulous and awesome for you and your body! What a great opportunity for you and I am so glad you are taking advantage of it!

It is always amazing to me how much strength your body builds on seemingly simple movements, and how hard those movements really are. My body gets fatigued after a workout like that! I used to think how pathetic I had to be until I realized just what it gives me - strength, flexibility, and mind-body awareness.

Congrats!! You are doing it all sooo right!
