What does Japanese sumo wrestlers meal consist?

3 weeks ago after introducing sumo wrestling, I have done a few more readings in preparation for keeping up to date for the next tournaments in Tokyo later in the year. Sumo wrestling is a sport followed by many people in Japan and as someone who follows Japanese culture and news, the news just flows to me.

One of the topics that always comes up is how does sumo wrestlers keep their weight. What do they eat to keep themselves energized? Japanese people in my mind in general is pretty healthy. You see many elders on the trains and street going about their own business just like everyone else. They seem to be more independent. But does sumo wrestlers have to eat fatty food to keep their weight? Absolutely not! In fact, they are too healthy to believe they can keep that weight and figure for each tournament.

According to many pro wrestlers, they don’t eat many meals a day but each meal they have are BIG meals. They would have a meal called Chankonabe which consists of a combination of fresh produce and nothing artificial or unhealthy. Remember sumo wrestlers are sportsman so their health is also important.

A meal of Chankonabe consists of various vegetables that is in season, proteins like chicken, beef, pork, tofu, fish etc) cooked in broth. There are also carbs that they can eat like noodles or rice. Flavouring depending on personal preference. If you look at the meal they have, it is just like a very healthy meal just A LOT of it in one go.

Here you go. They eat healthily, generally no snacks or sweets like many sportsmen so they are always prepared for the best result in each tournament.

Wow, knew that sumo wrestlers had a health consciousness about them didn't realize how strict their diet was.... do any that you know supplement with Natural Products, and/or supplements?

I haven't actually looked into that. Let me read up about it and maybe can share some findings with everyone
