# Leeds-The Assembly-Walk

Description from Strava: From where I live in the Creative District on the Leeds Dock of the River Aire there is a shortcut between The Calls and the Corn Exchange. This passage goes by the famous Assembly Rooms dating from 1777 as is noted with a Blue Plaque.
The first photo shows a beautifully sunny but cold day in the Leeds City Centre on the slate stone path from The Calls over to the Corn Exchange, the elliptical building straight ahead.
As the second photo shows the plaque installed on the building on the right, The Assembly, which is thusly described by the Leeds Civil Trust, “The handsomely decorated ballroom and card rooms made it one of Yorkshire’s finest assembly rooms. Its patrons were the Leeds merchants and local nobility and gentry. The ground floor formed the northern range of the third White Hall.”
At present and as shown in the third photo (via the Strava link), the assembly is no longer a place of card games and social climbing, but rather a calm place to take tea to deepen one’s practice of meditation at what is now known as the Kadampa Meditation Centre Leeds.

The old areas of many cities have had to change use, but I wonder if we will hit peak cafe soon as there are so many of them. We were just in Letchworth that has loads.We didn't get a coffee as we were in town to see Wicked at the independent cinema. Also had a look in the local bookshop and a charity furniture place.
