Light The Sky - NYE Fireworks at Abu Dhabi Corniche

Happy New Year, Actifitters!

Gotta share my activity from yesterday, NYE. It started with a misty morning, and even quite disappointing when it started to rain immediately after I had just finished wiping off the condensation on my car. 🙄

I had some last-minute errands to attend to in the morning, and since I was expecting a busy day, I ensured that the actifit app was turned on in my phone.

The rest of the day was for cooking and prepping for our simple celebration at home.

All the while, I was thinking where we would go to watch the NYE fireworks or if we should. It was a gloomy day with some showers in the afternoon. Thankfully, it no longer rained at night.

Abu Dhabi Corniche

There were seven venues (if I'm not mistaken) in the city where residents could go and watch the fireworks. One, off city, even attempted to break the Guinness World Records.

Sheikh Zayed Festival in Abu Dhabi emirate breaks 4 Guinness World Records during New Year 2024 celebrations. The fireworks display lasted for 40 minutes, and a 60-minute show of 5000 drones broke world records last night.

It was almost 40 minutes drive from the city, though, so we decided to just go to the Corniche.

We were there before 10pm because I knew that the parking would be a nightmare. We had to park far just to get away from the traffic congestion in addition to a definitive lack of parking spaces.

People kept on coming as the night progressed. The promenade was very lively and busy. Little Miss and Little Man passed the time at the nearby playground. As I was waiting for them, I could not help but feel amazed by this man who diligently and patiently brushed off the sand from the walkboards regularly.

Yachts or Beach?

We settled at the beachside, facing the Lulu Island. We also noticed several yachts that were rented out by some people so that they have a grand view of the upcoming fireworks.

Light The Sky

A few minutes before midnight, drones lighted up the sky to set up the mood for the tens of thousands of spectators gathered here.

It became livelier as the people excitedly anticipated the highlight of the evening.

After some cool formations, the drones formed into a clock and began the countdown to the New Year.

And then we got entertained by the fireworks that lasted for 15 minutes.

The oohhs and the ahhhs, the whistling and the clapping... it was evident how the people appreciated the spectacle.

Even my Little Man commented that the show was "worth it" (the walking and the waiting 😁).
