The South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) has officially submitted a request to increase the number of teams participating in the 2030 World Cup to 64
CONMEBOL President Alejandro Dominguez stated that the exceptional and celebratory edition marking the centenary of the first edition of the tournament must be unique, and for this reason, a request was submitted to increase the number of teams in the tournament, which will be held across three continents, to 64, as an exceptional measure, instead of the previously scheduled 48.
The tournament is expected to be held in Morocco, Spain, and Portugal, with South America hosting the first three matches.
