Rain, Rivers & Real Life

Today was a tale of two walks, and a little bit of unexpected real-life drama.

Walk one: while waiting for my wife at an appointment, I pulled up AllTrails and stumbled on a short trail that winds along a tiny river. Turns out, this little stream is ecologically important, even though I didn’t even know it existed in our village! It was a quiet, lovely path, until it suddenly wasn’t. I came across a woman kneeling over an elderly man who had collapsed right in the road. She stayed with him, I directed traffic, and we kept things safe until the ambulance arrived. Thankfully, they said he would be okay.

Walk two: the trusty canal path. Only this time? It was absolutely pouring. My new raincoat was stress-tested and passed with flying colors. There’s something strangely peaceful about walking in heavy rain, especially with trees reflecting in the water.

All told: 14 km, one new river discovered, one life moment witnessed, and one step closer to reminding myself that walks are not at all about distance, they’re about what happens along the way.
