RE: Should Pete Rose Be Eligible For The MLB Hall Of Fame?

I've been banging on this drum for a long time. I think he should definitely be in the hall of fame and my main argument for it actually has nothing to do with Pete Rose or betting at all.
A-Rod
That's my argument. The guy got caught using performance enhancing drugs, got caught lying about using performance enhancing drugs, and he is still eligible for the hall of fame. Sure, he hasn't gotten the votes needed yet, but if people have zero problem with Aaron Rodriguez being in the hall of fame, they need to put on their big boy pants and give Pete Rose the credit he is due.
In fact, I think A-Rod's stuff was more egregious because he did it while he was a player. I don't even care if you put Pete is as a player but not as a manager and put an asterix by his name, he still deserves to be in there.
Especially in a day and age where online sports betting is such a huge industry. There is zero chance players aren't doing the same thing every second of the day in 2025.

I think the big problem is betting on a game in which they can decide the outcome. Because if they are allowed to bet... they are also allowed to bet on themselves to lose. I can't think of anything more problematic than that. As far as your Alex Rodriguez argument, you are preaching to the choir. But I go the opposite way. I don't think he, Bonds, Giambi, Palmiero, etc. should be eligible at all. They already stole glory from players like Frank Thomas who was adamantly against steroids and actually tried to start a coups to force for the testing of steroids. I'd argue they also stole money from non-cheaters by signing huge contracts while there was less for honest players.
What about McGwire? You can't tell me he didn't juice. I have his old card from when he was on the As I think it was and he was so tiny! Hard to believe he could have hung with Sosa. I prefer they keep the sport clean, but I think we all know that isn't happening.
Oh yeah, they were included in my etc. Sosa's head grew about 8 sizes too. I hated that silly homerun chase when it happened. The steroid era is 100% Bud Selig's fault for pimping that chase so much when everyone knew they were both juicing.
Haha, good times. 😃 I just remember how it was such a big deal. So crazy to look back on now. I really wish we still got the Tigers games, but YouTube TV dropped Fox Sports Detroit. I remember the one year I played fantasy baseball, it was like a full time job!
