Ostatni dzień hiszpańskich wakacji był wyjątkowy pochmurny. Było bardzo ciepło, ale co chwilę przelotnie padało. Nie zrażeni pochmurnym niebem ruszyliśmy na ostatni spacer po Walencji.

[ENG] The last day of the Spanish holidays was exceptionally cloudy. It was very warm, but it rained from time to time. Undeterred by the cloudy skies, we went for a last walk around Valencia.

Kiedy, któregoś dnia korzystaliśmy z Ubiera, to kierowca co chwilę podrzucał nam propozycje ciekawych miejsc do zobaczenia. Jednym z nich byl Parque de Cabecera. Wybraliśmy się tam pieszo, ale na miejscu okazało się, w sumie to podobnie jest w całym parku Parque de Turia, czyli parku rozciągającym się długości około 7 kilometrów w dawnym korycie rzeki Turia. W latach sześćdziesiątych ubiegłego wieku bieg rzeki został zmieniony, a teren dawnego koryta został zamieniony w parki, boiska sportowe, generalnie tereny do aktywnego wypoczynku.

[ENG] When we used the Ubiera on one of the days, the driver would occasionally give us suggestions of interesting places to see. One of them was the Parque de Cabecera. We went there on foot, but as it turned out, so did the entire Parque de Turia, a seven-kilometre-long park in the former bed of the River Turia. In the 1960s, the course of the river was changed and the area of the former riverbed was converted into parks, sports grounds and, in general, areas for active recreation.

Po powrocie do centrum miasta spacerowaliśmy urokliwymi uliczkami w poszukiwaniu otwartego kościoła. W ten sposób trafiliśmy do kościoła Świętego Mikołaja z Bari i Świętego Ojca Màrtir. Kościół jest bardzo ładny, gotycka budowla, w trakcie renowacji otrzymała barokowe wnętrze, z mnóstwem złoceń i malowideł ściennych. W przewodnikach turystycznych określana jest mianem hiszpańskiej kaplicy Sykstyńskiej i coś w tym jest. Wstęp jest płatny, ale warto, warto też skorzystać z audio przewodnika, bo można dowiedzieć się wiele ciekawych historii związanych z budowlą i postaciami uwiecznionymi w kaplicach i na freskach. Po raz kolejny zauważyliśmy, że hiszpanie czczą pamięć "polskiego papieża" Świętego Jana Pawła II, w każdym odwiedzonym kościele było miejsce z jego podobizną.

[ENG] Back in the city centre, we wandered through the charming streets in search of an open church. This led us to the church of Saint Nicholas of Bari and Saint Padre Màrtir. The church is very beautiful, a Gothic building, during the renovation it received a Baroque interior, with lots of gilding and murals. Tourist guides refer to it as the Sistine Chapel of Spain, and there is some truth to that. There is an entrance fee, but it is well worth it, and it is also worth taking an audio guide, as you can learn many interesting stories about the building and the figures immortalised in the chapels and frescoes. Once again we noticed that the Spaniards revere the memory of the 'Polish Pope', St John Paul II, in every church we visited there was a place for his image.
