Banksia day down Gibberagong Track : May 29 2023
Struggle street continues. This should be easy to knock on the head but I have too many ideas banging around to be making progress. There are some easy ways. Nail jobs at home or go for a bike ride and find orchids. That is what I did.
Planned to ride to a local track and walk down to the rain forest seeking autumn orchids. Turned into a banksia day

A bit short of orchids. This was the early bidder for orchid of the day. Bonnet orchid leaves. I was sure there would be others down in the rain forest

Looking back down to the rain forest with the powerlines high above that I often walk under up top
Wattle flower in afternoon light is always a treat
Greenhood rosette close to where the bike is parked - pterostylis curta with a few weeks to go.
Not often that I walk a section of NP and find no orchids in flower. But this is what orchid spotting is about - findnwhat there is and what might be coming along. Tough walk dropping 300 metres to the creek and back up.

Dinner: My wife started pork roast. I did potatoes and veges. Was a less than happy cook.

Creek looks inviting although now cooler, hike back up out of there another story in the telling.

Having grown up with bilharzia laden creeks, I am never tempted to go in them. At school we had a creek on the boundary. We only ever swam in it after huge rains - snails all went to Bronkhorstspruit
Creeks not too inviting unless water flows strongly through, although of late, very few clean enough here.
