Hello Friends,

Well, if you are a Cricket Sports lover, I am sure you are enjoying it right now as the matches are going on between most of the popular Cricket playing nations except for New Zealand and South Africa.

There is a series going on between arch rivals England and Australia, there is a series bein played between India and West Indies, Pakistan and Sri Lanka and Afghanistan and Ireland too are playing some Cricket.

Not to forget, the United States is playing the Major League Cricket T20 tournament as well in an effort to popularize the Cricket in United States.

As the India vs West Indies test series just got concluded, here I am sharing my thoughts about the series as it had a disappointing end in the Second test with Fifth day's play washed out due to rain and thus the match ending in a tame draw!!!

India rested/dropped regular players like Cheteshwar pujara, Mohammad Shami and replaced them with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Mukhesh Kumar respectively and since some other usual test players like KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Ayyar got injured, players like Ajinkya Rahane, Ishan Kishan, Jaydev Undakat got extended opportunities.

Thus, Indian team for this series is a mixture of senior players and youth and I must admit, the players who got opportunity, made best use of those and were part of some records too!!!

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ravichandran Ashwin:

India started the First test with an win and debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal stole the limelight with 171 runs in the only innings India played and his century on debut made him the 17th Indian player to start his test career with a century on debut and overall, he is also the First Indian test player to score a century on debut in overseas matches.

Apart from Jaiswal, there were contributions from skipper Rohit Sharma who too scored a century and Virat Kohli made a patient 76.

In the bowling department, it was Ravi Ashwin who reaped in rich with 5 wickets hauls in both the West Indies innings with a match haul of 12 wickets.

West Indies were disappointing as they bundled out for 150 and 130 runs respectively in First and Second innings with highest score of 47 coming from debutant Alick Athanaze.

Second Test:

While Virat Kohli made a patient 70+ score in First test, he showed the signs of back in form with a century in Second test and most of the other Indian batters chipped in with Jaiswal continuing his form with a Fifty this time and Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin too scoring half centuries in India's First innings total of 438.

West Indies did put up a better show with the bat this time with 75 from skipper Kraigg Brathwaite and most of the top and middle order batters chipped in with 30+ scores, but the score wasn't enough to cross India's First innings total with West Indies folding out for 255.

India's bowling spearhead Mohammed Siraj in Shami's absence, was the main destroyer of West Indies batting with 5 wickets to his name in this test and debutant Mukesh Kumar chipped in with 2 wickets as well.

As there was loss of many overs due to rain by the time India started Second innings, India decided to go in with quick scoring and promoted Ishan Kishan in Fourth position in place of Virat Kohli and he didn't disappoint as he made a quickfire 52 from 34 balls and with useful contributions once again from Jaiswal and Rohit, India declared for 181 runs in Second innings on Fourth day allowing West Indies to bat for 30+ overs.

West Indies were gritty and patient in Second innings as they ended the Fourth day on 76 runs for the loss of 2 wickets and India were hoping to get rid of other 8 wickets on Fifth day as the ball was turning with Ashwin claiming both the wickets to fall.

But in contrast, it was a disappointing end as the Fifth day's play was washed out due to rain and the match ending in a draw.

While it's too early days for Indian debutants, but positives for India would be Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ishan Kishan as they displayed their batting skills and it will be interesting to see how they fare in SENA countries like South Africa, England, Australia and New Zealand in overseas matches and time only will tell.

That's it from me for today, we will have ODI's beginning from this Thursday, 27th July and have few other young prospects ready to showcase their skills and with Yashasvi Jaiswal not part of the ODI team, Ruturaj Gaikwad may get a chance to bat.

Will be back with few more updates, Thanks.

Thanks and Have a good day :)

Hi @coolguy123,

Whatever I am writing is not legal advice. Therefore, you cannot be relying on my advice fully. To my mind your article appears to be falling within the ambit of a "review" and since you have included the Fair Use Notice, you seem to be safe.

Copyright owners are human beings and usually would not bother you if you have infringed copyright once or twice. They usually target habitual offenders. They also would not target those bloggers who are conscientious by taking trouble to learn about copyright and doing everything possible within their means to avoid infringing copyright. Doing what I told you to do, would make you a conscientious blogger!

BTW, the link you provided for the images should take your readers to a page where your readers would be able find out who the actual copyright owners are and (if you are using a free image or a commercial image) the type of license granted to you.

This link doesn't do that:

https://crictoday.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/virat-kohli-2.jpg

As an example, this link does that: https://crictoday.com/cricket/news/virat-kohli-to-become-team-indias-mentor/.

In the latter case, I can make out from the "Terms of Use" of the website that the image is either owned by Crictoday or is licensed to them by somebody else, maybe a professional photographer, a stock image website etc.

Great. Well done.

Always remember this: As long as your content is within the ambit of Fair Use doctrine (i.e it is a commentary, criticism, review, news reporting, parody etc. etc.) you are almost always safe. I say, almost always safe because the copyright owner can still sue you because he/she may interpret your content as not being within the ambit of Fair Use doctrine. To prevent the copyright owner from suing you, but to give you a notice first as a precondition to suing, I included the sentence below in the Fair Use Notice:

If your copyrighted material is used here and if you disagree to the use of the same on this blog post despite my claim to "fair use", please comment below or contact me at hive.blog/@yourusername.

This sentence acts as a shield for you from being sued by the copyright owner without he/she first sending you a take down notice.

Under the laws of the USA and the UK, it obligatory for the copyright owner to serve such take-down notices first before taking legal action. But for the take-down notice to be given you have to give an address for service of the take down notice.

As you will see from the above explanation that you should use Fair Use only when you don't have alternative sources of images.

Even if you are in breach of copyright, you are unlikely to be sued until Hive becomes very popular with, in my opinion, about 10 million active users. That is when, imho, Hive will attract the attention of copyright owners and all hell will break loose.
