I had some solid mid-week action in the European Leagues which as always were fully covered on the SBC Discord making around half a unit of profit which now puts me close to 5 units up on the season. This gives some more room to 'take risks' even though I continue to be rather cautious as these markets are not easy to beat. Another tricky match today where I have a clear lean but not enough conviction at the current odds to go big right from the start.
AA Gent vs Cercle Brugge
AA Gent is back inside the top 6 with better performances but they haven't fully sold me yet. They managed to win with a 2-3 score last week against Charleroi showing that I don't really want to bet them as the favorite while they potetially can be backed as the outright underdog. The week before they lost 1-3 at home against OH Leuven showing that they are vulnerable in the defense. Both matches started rather boring with a study round with the first chance seeing a goal rather early in the matches. Cercle Brugge has also been improving but are still fighting to get outside of the playdowns. One of their issues is that each match they do make unneeded mistakes as some point which always cost them points. They played great 1st half against Club brugge as clearly the better team but also using a lot of energy which kind of backfired early in the 2nd half where they gave it away in a couple minutes. My notes of last week say to back Cercle in this one but the +0.25 odds aren't exactly that wrong I would say, as it remains a home match for AA Gent while Cercle is bound to make some mistakes. They also have the worst xg against over the last 4 matches at an average of 2.19. At the same time, they are unbeaten on the road in their last 5 matches and also never lost the 1st half corners matchup as they are not the team who crawl back. I'm leaning more toward the over, but there I think there might be a good chance for things to start with a study round giving much better odds in-game. I took tiny initial 0.08 unit bets on both
Cercle Brugge +0.25 @ 1.909 &
Over 2.75 @ 1.970. Both with an eye to possibly increase upon. Both are sides that are hard to be trusted on the defensive end so goals should come at some point. At the same time, Cercle has a clear divergence being over at home but under away at just 3W-9L against the asian handicap. 63% of the goals in their away matches have come in the 1st half. AA Gent has also been quite high on corners lately at 16-11-11-12-17 in their last 5 matches while cercle ranges more around the average numbers. I might take another small bet on Over 3.5 and slowly increase my stakes along the way each time at high odds bets.
