Regular Season 2023-2024 Review

With the playoffs left to go, this was my 2nd season in Sorare where I also included a Rare card collection to try and earn some prizes especially from the cap240 league. The good thing is that I managed to do just that while the bad thing is that the entire business model of Sorare simply doesn't stand the test of time with a general trend that player prices continue to go down as inflation is way too high compared to the new players that are coming in. On top, if enough new players would enter, it would still not be sustainable as the difficulty level would get so high that high card prices would makes no sense.

I did play with a very low budget in Rare around 500€ to start off with and re-invested everything I earned (aside from 315€ in earnings I still have on the side now) which helped me to grow my team and win more prized during the year. It all was a ton of fun but at the same time a ticking time bomb as the payouts were never going to be sustainable. I kept track each and every week with the following results. The numbers are in case I would have kept/sold everything to Dollars and give a warped view as not reinvesting would have never gotten me this many wins.

In total this adds up to 991.2$ in earnings combined. From that I 'cashed out the 200$ in STRK airdrop which I consider part of the earnings from Sorare and I still have 0.0968 ETH (335$) in liquid earnings. My current gallery is worth 1300$ according to sorarebase. So overall I would say I avoided being crushed by the price drops thanks to the rewards and the Airdrop but also didn't really earn that much from Playing. I did however have a ton of fun!

Going forward, I'm quite sure that I will continue playing but I will no longer be buying cards with the hope for them to appreciate in value to sell for higher to the next person. The card inflation is simply too big for this. There are ~10 more weeks to go in the playoffs to enter the cap240 Rare & Limited to hopefully hit some more thresholds while the new league system is being tested. Once that is over, I will make a plan for next season and see how I will continue. The good thing is that at least my cards can continue to be played in the Classic Season mode even though only card prizes can be won there and the cap240 threshold payouts will be totally scrapped.

I will see how it goes and will continue making these weekly reports during the playoffs.
