Description from Strava: Happy New Year to one and all!

We stayed up late last night, not cause we were partying or anything, we were watching stuff on Netflix and lost track of time!

the last thing we watched was Knives Out: the Glass Onion, which was really good.

So yeah, late to bed resulted in getting up late, and thus we didn't get out for a walk until lunchtime. My partner had wanted to go and check out a local path that we hadn't been on for awhile. It starts at the same bridge I pass when I do my runs alongside the bypass, and today we headed over the bridge to see what was on the other side.

This would be useful for me as I've seen local runners use that path for training, so it would be a good opportunity for me to check it out for myself.

We crossed the bridge and headed down a small road towards some farm buildings. It is technically a private road, but they do allow walkers, cyclists and horses to use it.

We continued along the road, with Dawn stopping occasionally to look for birds. After 2 miles, we turned off onto a public bridleway which went along the edge of a field. It was starting to get muddy underfoot (and it only got worse the further we went!)

I consider my self a 'fair weather' trail runner ie when conditions are dry and not muddy lol! Perhaps this is something I need to try to get used to this year, try and push myself out if my comfort zone and all that. Although muddy, the track itself was reasonably smooth and level, so shouldn't be too difficult.

After a while the path took a sharp left and we entered a small woodland located just outside Branston village. Some birds to see here, including Blackbirds, Coal Tits, and a very noisy flock of Geese flying overhead. There were small paths crossing the wood in all directions, but we eventually emerged the other side onto the main road into Branston.

Thinking about a potential route for running, I guess I can run down these small tracks, and then when I hit Branston I can head left on the main road to join the bypass and then head home. I estimate the distance would be 8km?

I may need to do 2 laps to make it a worthwhile distance!

After pausing for a drink, we then turned round and walked all the way home again. Quite a pleasant walk in the end!

And I guess I'll be visiting it again soon for a muddy run or two!

About the Athlete: Living in the UK, I am an intermittent Runner, but always striving for more consistency. When I'm not training I can be found photographing insects or listening to really loud angry music (which is the best type of music obviously!)
