Cycle ride to Leechpool Woods : My Actifit Report Card: March 16 2026
Good conditions today provided an opportunity to go for a cycle ride. As it happened I set off in some broken sunshine but it clouded over during the ride and threatened to rain. I was lucky to get back before any rain came. It did turn damp later but nothing more than a light drizzle.
So after riding some quiet back roads towards Horsham I turned off onto some country tracks. Skirting a field planted with clover. This field looks marvelous when the clover blooms in May, I have taken photos of it in past years. Last year, cereal grain was grown, so this year must be a rest year.
On entering the woods, I was expecting some difficulties in the mud. It is still early in the season so the going was soft to wet.
Another field to cross before entering Leechpool and Owlbeech woods. There was no way I could venture off the main hard stony track as it was too wet. So I just passed through here today.
On leaving the woods, turning back to tarmac for a short distance before entering St Leonards Forest. Again, I had to keep to the harder stone tracks, but there was three miles of it to cover!
Here the going was good and it didn't take me long to cover the three miles and exit onto a road at Colegate.
The next woodland bridalway was a different story! Very muddy indeed except for a short section which is shown in my picture, a nice smooth and dry footpath.
The last stop before home was Buchan Park lake. Total distance today was about 17 miles. Maximum elevation 141m, min 58m. Max speed 28.9 miles per hour downhill. Max heart rate 141. I didn't press hard today as It was the longest ride for a few months. 😁
