Last day of the trip — castle run, Traumwerk, and home [#poprzeczka May 2026 #01]

A new month, a new challenge

May 1st. The #poprzeczka resets. Day 1, bar at 1,000 steps. With 14,000 steps on the counter, the bar for day one was cleared fourteen times over. A strong start.

Morning run to Schloss Staufeneck

Woke up at Ristorante Castello Piding after a wonderfully quiet night and the kind of deep sleep you only get in the mountains. Before breakfast, laced up for a short run — straight up to Schloss Staufeneck, the medieval castle perched on the hill above the valley. A 4 km loop through the forest, back by the meadow. The air was cool, the path forgiving, the views — as expected.

Up there, the Kneipp path with its cold water pool was a welcome bonus. A quick dip of the feet in icy water. Wakes you up faster than any coffee.

Hans-Peter Porsche Traumwerk

After breakfast, the family moved to the Hans-Peter Porsche Traumwerk — a wonderland of toys, an enormous railway model layout, and a collection of sports cars. The kind of place that makes kids and adults equally wide-eyed.

@niko.lemark was particularly fascinated — a car meet was happening, and some of the vehicles had already started arriving. A proper petrolhead moment.

The road home

On the way back to Ljubljana, a familiar stop in Flachauwinkl for a dog walk on the well-known path towards the small pond. The dogs appreciated every metre of it.

Home at 9 pm. Unpacked. One last doggy walk to close the day.

The feeling

Bittersweet. A little sad that the vacation is over — but the heart is full. Great times, great places, great people. Family at its best.
