Introducing the Hive Power Up Month - Let's grow every day!

avatar
(Edited)

As many of you already know, the Hive Power Up Day (PUD) is taking place on the first day of every month. The idea is to provide the people from the community with a funny incentive to power up their HIVE, have their vote more valuable and strengthen their influence on the blockchain.

HiveBuzz supports the Hive PUD initiative for more than one year now and has created the well-known Power-Bee badge to reward participants.

Listening feedback from users

Although over time the Hive PUD has become a very popular event for users, we have also received some very interesting feedback.

Among them, many users told us it's sometimes hard to gather enough HIVE to power up at the end of the month, especially when you are a newcomer.

Others told us they don't want to stack their HIVE till the end of the month and prefer to do regular power-ups to directly benefit from better curation.

Then in her post about missing a Hive Power Up Day:

@bulldog-joy wrote:

Now listen up people and join the #hivepum. The Hive Power Up Month.
Every time I will post in June, via PEAKD btw, I will switch the Payout of the post to 100% Hive Power!
I am going to keep track on the HP so by the end of the month I will know if it was worth doing it or not. We all know that Powering up is always worth something, because it means staking and gaining...Pooooweeeerrrrr.

This was the trigger for us to start thinking about a new challenge and badge:

How to get this new Power Up Month badge?

This new PUM challenge will start on September 1st. It will last all month and here are the rules:

For each day of the month, you have 2 options:

Option 1:

  1. As per @bulldog-joy suggestion, publish a post (a good opportunity to get the Daily and Monthly Author badges too) and set the payout mode to "100% Hive Power" or "Power Up 100%" depending on which frontend you use.
To do so, click on Advanced settings to change the payout mode before publishing.
  2. Your post must generate a payout to be eligible
  3. You cannot upvote yourself (to avoid cheating with rule 2 and deserve your badge)

Option 2:
If you aren't planning on posting or have no idea what to write about someday or just aren't a blogger at all, you can alternatively:

  1. power up at least 1 HIVE instead of publishing.
  2. You cannot powerdown during the month, i.e. not start a powerdown or generate HIVE from a running powerdown.

You can switch between options from one day to another. The main goal is to have some HIVE powered up every day of the month.

IMPORTANT:
HiveBuzz will use UTC date and time to validate posts and power-ups date. Therefore, check your timezone and convert your local time to UTC before doing so!

Strictly follow the above rules and this badge will be yours!

Badges will be distributed to the successful participants at the end of the Power Up Month.

Have fun and Power Up!

What a great initiative.

Is Power Up day still going ahead as usual?

And then this on top?

Yep! In fact the countdown timer is running over on https://hivebuzz.me/ (under the "Challenges" tab) to show when you can start earning your @hivebuzz Power Up Day badge. And of course, powering up and posting (using #hivepud and/or #hpud) during the first day of the month your local time also gets you on the Hive Power Up Day list too. 😊

Cheers and !PIZZA

I think the easiest way for the second challenge is just Power Up 1 or more hive twice a day!

Yep, I think I might set a daily alarm on my phone to power up 1 Hive for the month, so I know I have at least the minimum set for the badge. Because yes, I see a @hivebuzz badge and immediately "need" it... 😂

And thanks for the !PIZZA, @revisesociology - here's some !BEER to wash it down. Cheers! 🍕 🍻

Yes, both challenges are running together. Participating in the PUD can bootstrap your PUM 😉

That sounds like a challenge, I don't post on a regular basis, but first thing every morning I check my wallet, when I claim the rewards they auto power up since they are mostly curation rewards, will those count toward the badge. I have been pretty lucky curation wise and get at least 1 Hive a day curation lately. Or will only manually powered up Hive count?

Any power-up you perform will count, regardless of the HIVE source and how the power-up is performed.

good, then a no brainer for me thanks, just claim and go, what could be simplier.

My first reaction?

Then my second thought was that I need to chat with @bulldog-joy to see if we can coordinate something for the @hiveblopomo initiative I do every April and November (Hive Blog Posting Month, the blockchain version of the worldwide NaBloPoMo challenge). So fair warning, Anna - I plan to shout out soon! 😊

My third thought is, as always...

Very cool idea... except with HBD at $1.25 everyone that chooses 100% Power Up would be losing out on a bit of (potential) HP from every post.

Suggestion (for a next 'power up month'): Power up 100% of all Hive earned every day?

Thank you for your suggestion @braaiboy.

Yep, with the current HBD price, we expect a slowdown in the PUD and a slow start of our PUM challenge.
We will first see how this first edition unfolds and we will adapt if necessary.

A nice alternative option for people. I know badges are popular. Having to wait a full month to power up funds can be frustrating.

Another badge, another gamification for HIVE blockchain and simply more buzz to add to the mix. Good ideas as I felt the same about progressively powering up rather than waiting for a specific day. Still, the HIVE PUD is unique as it pull the entire HIVE community to store and lock the value, rather than rush with it on Exchanges...

Thank you @tfranzini.

You can use whatever frontend you like for your posts. The reference to PeakD comes just from @bulldog-joy's post excerpt.
Good luck!

I have a really dumb question: how, precisely, does one accumulate HIVE other than from a power-down at this point? I can set my posts reward to 50% HBD, 50% HP, but nowhere does there seem to be an option to actually receive HIVE as a reward.

Good catch @steampunkkaja.
You have to select "100% Hive Power" or "Power Up 100%" depending on which frontend you use.
It's been fixed in the post.

I like the concept but I think it is counter intuitive as this means there will be alot less HBD being generated and dumped which could potentially impact the peg.

It also means people will be getting less Hive for their posts as quite often HBD increased enabling people to get a bit more rewards from their posts.

I prefer the more frequent power up model. Is it a challenge to assess people over a month and reward them based on their monthly Hive power up activity?

0

avatar

Thank you for your feedback (and sorry for the late reply).
Yes, fewer HBDs could be printed but we really don't think this challenge will have such a major impact on the HIVE economy.

Is it a challenge to assess people over a month and reward them based on their monthly Hive power up activity?

It's only for fun and to incentivize people to have a bit more skin in the game with a regular commitment.
Everyone is free to participate or not.

FYI: Option 1 wouldn't work for the first days (because payout is delayed by 7 days) so unless you started a week ago it wouldn't work.

0

Nah, that's the post creation date that matters, not the payout date, so it will be OK for posts made on September 1.

Please forgive my persistence. I was just wondering if there a certain amount of time allotted before the award calculates. I ask because I've been following your instructions. I made sure that the person's receiving the power up had not already received one. Their 2021-09 power up award had not been unlocked. Then I powered up ten hive in each of their names, and then checked. Not only did their achievements open for them, but they now had the emblem that marked them as having received a power up. Yet my achievement for power helper has yet to unlock. Which is why I ask if there's an allotted time to calculate the qualifications.

Alright, no worries

Hive Engine is a decentralised exchange that can be accessed here: https://hive-engine.com/

You can trade second-layer coins on the Hive blockchain there, but you can't read or write posts, upvote, reply etc

An example of a second-layer coin is !PIZZA

All things going well, the PIZZA bot will see that call and give you some PIZZA of your own

Maybe you're using hive.blog?

On Android smartphone, it looks like this:

Hive.blog

That's my profile page on Hive.blog ^

You can see your profile page from most front-ends by putting your Hive user name after the '@' in the URL, like this:

https://hive.blog/@focus.folks

Change to:

https://hive.blog/@lv99-rd-chocobo

img_0.19292372511942352.jpg

Your profile page on hive.blog ^

There's also PeakD and Ecency

They're the most popular front-ends for interacting with the Hive blockchain as a social media & blogging platform, but there are many others. You can log in to any of them with your Hive user name and private keys

It can be very confusing at times, but I'm happy to help out

See if you can tell me which front end you're using and I can guide you through how to power up your HIVE 😃

I'm a bit of a Final Fantasy fan myself, but I played VII first, then VIII later. Haven't played XII 😊

Thank you so much. I'm using peakd I guess? lol I didn't know I was also posting to hive blog when I post to peakd. :O or maybe I misunderstood you somewhere in there lol

(Edited)

That's more or less how it works. Essentially when you post or comment from PeakD, Ecency, Hive.blog or any other front-end you're not posting to those websites per se, you're using them to post to a blockchain. You can look at a post from any or all of them because they all derive the information from that one place: the Hive blockchain.

They're user interfaces, shells or skins, so to speak. That's why I keep calling them front-ends. The back end is the blockchain

That's the general gist of how it works

The error you received was probably because you run out of Resource Credits. RCs are an abuse-prevention measure to protect the chain from being spammed into oblivion by bots

Each time you post, comment, upvote, follow someone or do anything else here (transact with the blockchain) it uses a small amount of your Resource Credits. You start with 100% when you create your account

It's like your HP in an RPG. Or maybe MP is more apt. Each time you cast one of these "spells," your MP is depleted. Different spells use different amounts

Resource Credits recharge at a rate of about 20% per day on their own

Have a look here to see yours: https://hiveblocks.com/@lv99-rd-chocobo

(Hiveblocks is another tool built to extract and display information from the Hive Blockchain on a webpage)

I'll delegate some HP to you to get you back up and going again. Hang on a moment...

Oh wow thank you for explaining! I had no idea and was so confused. And a very easy to follow explanation as well. I guess I gotta make sure what I have to say is important when I'm on here. lol Thank you!

0

Okay, there you go!

Before and after I delegated HP to you:

@lv99-rd-chocobo, Resource Credits, Hiveblocks.com

What I just did was delegate some of my powered-up HIVE to you. Now you get to benefit from the resulting upgrade to your total RCs. It will also increase the value of your upvote a little bit

The same thing happens when you power up your own HIVE

This brings us back to your original question: how to do just that

I mostly use the Ecency app on my smartphone for Hive these days, but I'll show you how to power up with PeakD, since you said that's what you know

Just a moment

0
0
0.000
avatar

Okay, just having a look through the process now. It's going to take a few separate steps for you. You don't have any HIVE to power up at the moment, but that will change as you claim rewards from your posts

You set up your account through Splinterlands, yes?

If you're using PeakD, you must have already got your private keys from them.

You'll need to add your active key to your Hivesigner or Keychain account to power up HIVE through PeakD

I can transfer you a couple of HIVE so you can try it for yourself once that's done

Let me know how you go 😀

Also,

Mystic Quest!

That was one of the first games I ever played. So good

Love the soundtrack to this day

The nostalgia! 😁

Oops lol. I think I gave it back to you by voting for your explanation comment. It was just so good and easy to understand I had to upvote it. or I'm wrong and I have no idea what I'm doing which is also a possibility. But I think I found how to do it, if I ever get some more hive. :) Thank you so much for your patience and explanations.

0

Heh heh heh, no you didn't give it back. Only the delegating account can undelegate. What you 'give' when you vote is a part of the Rewards Pool, proportional to the value of your vote, which depends on how much HIVE you have powered up

You can see the total of the rewards pool on Hiveblocks.com

If you ever have any other questions, feel free to ask. You might already know about this, but you can tag accounts in posts and comments using '@'

As in: @lv99-rd-chocobo

If you do that for my account, I'll get a notification. Then I can get back to you and help out

Don't be a stranger! 😉

Happy Hiving!
