2012 - celebrating new year in the Austrian Alps - we maybe had just a little too much jagermeister !

I found some pics from an old ski holiday to Saalbach and Hinterglemm in Austria for New Year back in 2012.

We got there on new years eve - and it was snowing quite nicely. We went with 2 other friends. We arrived in resort in the evening and immediately went to the pub above to get ready for the new year celebration !

We had a whale of a time celebrating the new year, and absolutely hammered it on the Jager bombs. The next day, the lifts were fully open, but we were pretty hungover. We made it out skiing, but we were not at our best !!!!

We were pretty lucky with snow all week, and had some nice powder to ski in. My wife skis, but my friends and I all snowboard, so we were loving the pow ! Looking through the pics - I'm not in many, but I am in the one above - I'm wearing the red jacket !

It was my first time skiing in Austria. The town was quite pretty, and we had a decent selection of runs to pick from.

And being the alps, the views were quite stunning, when it cleared up !!!

IMG_1846.JPG

It was quite an odd resort from a skiing perspective. It probably had the most modern lift system I've ever seen in a resort (and I've been to lots of them), although the positioning of the lifts wasnt the best I'd seen - so every now and again it would just be difficult to get from A to B.

As can be seen above though - we did get some lovely deep powder - thats my mate up to his waist in it, trying to dig himself out with his board !!

IMG_1813.JPG

We did have a day or two where it was snowing quite a lot - but thats always to be expected at that time of year.

IMG_1859.JPG

In particular I really liked the bars and restaurants in town. It was cheaper to eat and drink there than it was in France (where we usually go) and the pubs were fun - the Austrians were just out to have a good time, all the time !!

IMG_1839.JPG

I think it was a kids chute in the play park !

IMG_1831.JPG

As can be seen above, we really did have a good feet or two in resort - quite nice indeed !

IMG_1840.JPG

So we did enjoy the holiday. The best bits where the modern lift system, the cheaper prices and the pubs - and the new year celebration - the Austrian's did that well ! However, I'm not sure if I'd go to the same resort again, as the skiing was limited compared to say some of the bigger French resorts, and the lift system just wasn't laid out as well as it could have been. But we still had a lot of fun !!! We'd like to go skiing again somewhere this winter, but I'm not sure we can quite afford it as we've had a heck of a lot of other big bills this year. Never mind - maybe next year !

Wow! How I wish to experience handling the real snow. But for sure it's very cold. Back then when I was in Germany though it was spring time when I was there but OMG, super cold. I wore 5 pieces of shirts underneath aside from the jacket. But yeah, it's a wonderful experience.

I am so happy seeing at your family having great time there. Creating wonderful memories with your family is the best thing to do. Stay safe and God bless.

Wow, Hoosie. Look at that beautiful snow! Yes too many big bills to prevent a trip this coming year.
Well you had a great time in 2012. I wonder if that much snow still falls now. You never know with global warming that has strange effects on the weather. I'm sure it's still beautiful with plenty of snow :)
Have a nice day and evening.
