(ESP-ENG) El futbol y sus pérdidas! [Opinion]
Hello friends, good vibes to all.
After a slight recess due to the end of the year, we return to these parts with a couple of news that shook the world of sports and that is that soccer from January 2023 will no longer be the same because in the month of December this beautiful sport lost two of its greatest exponents of all history, one physically and the other in relevance and importance. Edson Arantes do Nascimento or better known as Pelé departed to eternity after a prolonged struggle with an illness, one of the greatest in history, the best for many left us at the end of last month. And Cristiano Ronaldo fortunately has not died but his soccer career has, as he decided to take a step to a soccer that he said he would never go to, to the money soccer of the Arab world.
In a couple of interviews granted by the Portuguese, one more recent than the other, he constantly reiterated that his intention was to finish his career in the elite of soccer playing Champions League and being relevant because, according to him, he still had a lot to contribute and that money was never going to be a driving force for a decision to change his career and his level. So, what happened, what changed from there until today? - I honestly don't know, but one could guess or assume. CR7's career went into a tortuous spiral from the moment he returned to the club that saw him grow, his stay at Manchester United was not, I think, as he expected so he would soon realize that he was less and less relevant and that friend for a man like Cristiano Ronaldo is a mortal blow to the ego.
We all know what he had to live in the Ten Hag era, seeing Cristiano on the bench for some was inconceivable but certainly something happened that the Dutchman noticed quickly, it was not a whim of the coach or I want to think that, it was something in the attitude or perhaps even in the Portuguese's physique that seemed to convince less and less the people of ManU which inevitably led him to leave England. But the consolidation of those suspicions occurred at the World Cup, Fernando Dos Santos dared, to the astonishment of many, to leave him on the bench for a couple of games being one of those and Portugal's best in Qatar, coincidence?... - maybe. The thing is that we already saw a decline, bad attitudes and an unproductiveness that is not common in him and that sadly led him to an outcome without shame or glory in the World Cup, that the last image of CR7 in a World Cup has been leaving the field crying was an omen.
A player of this caliber without a team and without any important offer on the table, because to have gone to play in the Arabian Super League is because nobody called him, was the sign he needed to realize that his days in the world elite of soccer were numbered and that friend seems sad to me, very sad. It is normal and it is something we have to understand that this generation of players are on their way out, but from there to lose them out of nowhere in a soccer that absolutely nobody sees is something else. I feel that this decision, beyond the economic aspect, which is a savagery, was the last nail in the coffin of a career that has no adjectives to describe it. Ronaldo did not deserve an end, if this is the end, in this way, an end that betrays his own words and ideals, where he swore he would never play for all the money in the world and ended up surrendering to the very real possibility of being left without a team for the beginning of the season.
Because in the end I think that's what happened, he gave a chance to see if that phone rang with a proposal from a team, he waited until the last moment but what he wanted so much never came, hence the confirmation of this news was given on December 30-31. CR7 is one of the best players in history, nobody is going to take that away from him but we must be ready to not know anything more about him because that is what is going to happen, from this moment on the Portuguese stopped being relevant, he was relegated to a level 1 league but well, I guess that's better than not playing anywhere and he knows it. Will he continue in the national team? - Everything points to yes, in fact his desire is to play the Euro next year but seeing the panorama I do not know if it will be business for Portugal to continue counting on him, everything will depend on how he manages to adapt in the lands of Saudi Arabia. What is certain is that the end of the Cristiano Ronaldo era in Europe has come to an end.
And to finish I want to dedicate a few words to King Pelé, the player who for many reinvented soccer, the one who without having set foot in Europe managed to be a reference for the whole world, he managed to be world champion three times and with 17 years old the first of them, in Santos he won absolutely everything, he was a god on the field where everyone feared him and his soccer was unique. Comparing Pelé with Xs player is a trite topic and does not apply because we are in very different times of this sport, Pelé shone 50 to 70 years ago, soccer was not even the shadow of what it is today so there is no other choice but to continue to admire his legacy.
I recently read that if the golden ball had been available to non-European born players in Pele's time, he would have won 7 in his career. In case you don't know, it wasn't until 1995 when that rule was changed that allowed a player of any nationality to be eligible for the award. It is difficult to talk about a player that I did not see play beyond the countless videos of him, see how he moved without the ball, his tactical stop, the way he outwitted the defenses, how he associated with his teammates, all those details I honestly do not know a little, but that does not prevent me from having the opinion I have of him, for me he is in my top 3 of all time, I feel that what he lacked was to have conquered Europe. Pele would have played in the old continent and the dimension of him as a player would have been much bigger, if that is possible. Whether we like it or not, playing in Europe is a gigantic plus; luckily the King didn't need it.
The conclusion is that soccer in this final stretch of 2022 lost part of what was its past and recent history, obviously this sport is constantly growing and evolving but that does not mean that this news has been surprising and above all sad. I doubt very much that we will see again a player like Pele in history, he was one of that group of players who managed to remain in force over the years with a magic of those past generations. And as for CR7, we can only hope that this move has worked out well for him and that we don't see him at the end of the season lamenting, I think he has potential and even more for a league as poor as the Arabian one.
¡Un abrazo a todos , nos leemos en la próxima!
Well my people that's all for today, I hope you liked it.

Hola 👋
Toca esperar...
Gracias por la visita amigo!
