Maybe you haven't heard the name Kamila Valieva yet, or maybe you have because her name has been becoming quite famous in the last few months.
Who is Kamila Valieva? She is a Russian skater of just 16 years old, she is one of the best in the world at the moment, she is a girl with an angel face, she is a real spectacle when she is on the ice rink, it is no small thing to say that Kamila holds the record of being the only skater to do a quadruple jump in the Olympic Games.
As a result of an anti-doping control Kamila was detected trimetazidine, (which is used for angina pectoris but its use is also related to the improvement of physical efficiency) just one day after winning the gold medal with the Russian team, so all alarms were raised about the girl, because as I said she won the gold medal at the Olympic Games in Beijing 2022 and also the gold medal at the European Figure Skating Championships on Ice this year.

Pues a raíz de un control antidopaje a Kamila se le detectó trimetazidina, ( el cual se usa para la angina de pecho pero que su uso también está relacionado a la mejora de la eficiencia física) un solo día después de haber ganado la medalla de oro con el equipo ruso, por lo que se levantaron todas las alarmas con respecto a la chica, pues como ya dije ganó la medalla de oro en los juegos olímpicos de Pekín 2022 y también la medalla de oro en el Campeonato Europeo de Patinaje Artístico sobre Hielo del presente año.

Hace unos pocos días la Federación Internacional de Patinaje elevó la edad mínima para que los patinadores y patinadoras puedan competir en eventos deportivos con la categoría de adultos. Ahora los patinadores deberán de tener 17 años para poder participar en estos eventos. Todo esto a raíz de lo que fue el escándalo de en el que se vio envuelto Valieva.
Cabe decir que en aquellos juegos olímpicos en la última jornada Valieva salió bastante desconcertada, con una serie de errores y caídas que la dejaron fuera de esa posible medalla a nivel individual, en esa ocasión se vio a Kamila muy mal y completamente fuera de sí pues dejo la pista entre lágrimas.
The International Skating Federation feels a "moral obligation" to increase the age of competitors to 17 years old in order to take care of their mental health. I believe that the mental health of athletes in general is very important because just as they take care of their body, they should also take care of their mind, I am one who has always defended this thought.
Returning to the main topic, the reform will be applied in two phases: the minimum age of competition will be 16 years old for the 2023-24 season and in the second phase the minimum age will be 17 years old for the 2024-2025 season.
This decision was almost unanimous as 100 countries voted in favor of increasing the age of athletes and only 16 voted against. All this, as I said, with the aim of preserving the mental health of the athletes. The intention of the federation is not to put so much pressure on athletes at such young ages because they are practically still children when they are already under pressure to compete at the highest level.
A qué viene todo esto, pues la Federación Internacional de Patinaje se siente en la “obligación moral” de aumentar la edad de los competidores a 17 años para así cuidar de su salud mental. Considero que la salud mental de los atletas en general es muy importante pues así como cuidan su cuerpo así deben de cuidar su mente, yo soy uno que siempre ha defendido este pensamiento.
Volviendo al tema principal, la reforma se aplicará en dos fases: la edad mínima de competencia será de 16 años para la temporada 2023-24 y en la segunda fase la edad mínima será de 17 años para la temporada 2024-2025.
Dicha decisión fue casi por unanimidad pues 100 países votaron a favor de aumentar la edad de los atletas y solo 16 votaron en contra. Todo esto pues como digo con el objetivo de preservar la salud mental de los atletas. La intención de la federación es no presionar tanto a los atletas en edades tan cortas pues son prácticamente niños todavía cuando ya se les presiona para compitan al más alto nivel.
It makes me wonder if this is a boycott against Russia who is a very dominant country in this sport and that in attempts in previous years to modify the age by the skating federation, the Russian federation was the one that was mainly opposed.
What happens with this modification is that it subtracts years of possible participation to female athletes mainly. Because when they are younger with bodies still developing, it is easier for them to make jumps and pirouettes, as they develop as women their body changes which makes it difficult and subtracts agility, skating is a sport that does not have many years of competitive life for an athlete.
Me hace pensar si esto es un boicot contra Rusia quien es un país muy dominante en este deporte y que en intentos en años anteriores de modificación a la edad por parte de la federación de patinaje, la federación de Rusia era la que se oponía principalmente.
Que ocurre con esta modificación es que se les resta años de posible participación a las atletas mujeres principalmente. Pues cuando estas son más jóvenes con cuerpos aun en desarrollo, se les hace más fácil hacer saltos y piruetas, al desarrollarse como mujeres sus cuerpo cambia lo que les dificulta y le resta agilidad, el patinaje es un deporte que no tiene mucho años de vida competitiva para un atleta.
