Trying Out Prepackaged Traditional Herbal Soup on a Busy Day

This week "chaos" continues as I juggle between work, hospital, and church.

And this time with an additional attempt of trying out the special herbal soup that I acquired during Chinese New Year, that targets lung health

These days the way of acquiring traditional herbal remedies are a lot easier, instead of souring out for good traditional medicine shop, they too have been more innovative and improved their exposures through online stores and multi lingual instructions.

Better still, to keep things open they have also stated what the ingredients (minus the measurements) are available in the pack, but that is also if you know how to identify them. 😅

Good thing that from young I did pay a bit of attention when mom used to make herbal soup; and with the help of the Internet, I could triple confirm my guesses on their names. 😆

Of course, you don't just dump the herbs and boil as they are. We usually add on additional items like proteins into the mix for a better taste. For me, this time I decided to add mushrooms and carrots.

No matter how sealed the pack looks, rinsing off any debris from the ingredients is a must. Besides, the instructions did mention to do so at STEP 1.

Since the wolf berries looked a bit pathetic, adding extra goji berries (that's good for the eyes) wouldn't hurt. Moreover, it also gives "extra umph of nutrients" to the soup.

Last but not least, since I didn't put any chicken meat to the mix, adding mushroom seasoning will create a more balanced sweet savoury flavour.

And that can be the vegan version of herbal soup.

However, due to the fact that my family is not vegan, adding clean protein like eggs would be a great mix to the soup. Just make sure that the shell is thoroughly cleaned.

Another option is that I can break it into the soup after it is done with 1 hour of slow cooking.

Easy Rate? ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Off I go to the next venue - the hospital with dad.

Unfortunately, due to the appointment wasn't the first timeslot, getting a parking space is a hassle because there are already loads of people cramp in the hospital, and I ended up walking a mile away to pay for a parking spot on this un-kept open area.

Despite of the jam and hustling for a parking spot, we still managed to grab something to eat. Good thing we had a good plate of Parata & Egg, the most Non-spicy dish in the canteen, before we have to endure a 4 hour clinical wait.

This time the crowd is exceptionally packed with all sorts of chronic eye diseases, injuries and follow-ups; and every out patient takes at least 30 mins per visit.

By the time we left the hospital, there were still 50 patients to go.

In the end all is still well, I still get to join a night prayer rally for the beloved country of Malaysia, enjoy the presence of my Aba Father Almighty, and head home with renewal of strength to tackle another day.

Not to bad. Can't complain. Still alive.

And that's all that matters. 😌

Until Then

Stay healthy, give thanks, and stay happy. 😌

Wishing good health for your and your parents. The herbal soup looks interesting. I wonder if this is also available here or at least a variation of it. I guess I will need to check the nearest Chinese pharmacy here. Thank you for sharing about this. Glad you had a productive day. It's almost the weekend so hope you'll get to recharge then. Happy #thankfulThursday!

Thanks so much! Indeed a day to give thanks!
I believe majority Chinese herb shops will sell these, but maybe not in pre-pack. The best way is to show them the front packaging list (written in Mandarin) and then show them the picture I took with the labels. The Chinese herbs shop usually will have a sensei (aka Chinese pharmacist) and he / she will naturally be able to identify immediate what they are. 😊

I think I am going to do this more often for mom with other additional edible ingredients / proteins . Maybe at least once a week. Hot soup will definitely calm her stomach too.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

My aunt usually buys this pack of herbal soup for her and her husband. I didn't ask her what the benefit was, but since reading your post here, I think I want to try it out.

Hey @mell79 yes some of these are very similar to usual the usual herbal soup, as most of the ingredients are there; making sure the proportion are balance. That's what I remembered my late uncle told me (who was a Chinese Medicine practitioner)

In that case, I'll have to ask my aunt how to make it. I assumed the packet contained instructions. But if it's in Chinese, I can't read it either. Lol!😜
