Thinking about EXHAUST, summer time, and personal goals...

I'm sitting here on my lunchbreak, and thinking to myself that I haven't posted / written about anything in a while. This usually means I've got WAY too much going on, and haven't had a chance to sit down and put some thoughts into words -- so here I am.

Summertime:

Everyone seems to be dealing with some kind of heatwave around the world right now. It's certainly warm here -- but I wouldn't say it's nearly as hot as other places. A nice and comfortable 25 degrees feels pretty warm in the YYJ -- so I'm certainly not complaining. Another couple months though, and the rain will be back, and I wont have have the same kind of opportunities.

Trying to make the best of summer, currently. Plenty of beach days these last few weeks -- but not as much camping as last year. There are talks of trying to get out there next weekend -- so hopefully we can. I needs to get out of town and spend some time by the water or in the shade or out at the crags or something like that. Too much concrete makes me crazy.

Exhaust:

I just finished reading the stuff about SMT burnup, and it sounds like there will be a minimum viable product (hopefully) scheduled for testing and whatnot some time in September! It's super exciting, and I'm gonna try to improve EXHAUST to a point where it could be incorporated. I've got the XHST scot-token via steem-engine reserved, but I'm not 100% certain that that's the way I'd like to go, and it would be good to be able to contrast / compare each 'product' before getting too far ahead of myself.

With myself getting a bit heavier into running and climbing training (not to mention how RIDICULOUSLY busy I am at work currently), I've had a hard time motivating myself to sit down in front of the computer and improve EXHAUST -- especially since my dogs just wanna go play outside in the sun. That being said though, over the weekend, I tossed together some VERY crude mapping functionality for the site.

I'm not totally certain how I feel about the maps. I'm not sure if I should set up somethign a bit more 'traditional' via Leaflets or something along those lines so streets and pathways and all the typically "mapping" stuff can be seen -- or if I should continue making something less traditional. The map above could be tweaked and styled to show different colors along the route that could be proportional to your pace, and increasing the thickness of the line based on elevation gain / slope or something like that. Could certainly do some pretty cool stuff.

What do all you fine folks think? Stylized maps, or traditional maps? or both??

Other than that -- this week, I want to ACTUALLY build out the new dashboard and leaderboard pages. I've gotten all my socializing out of the way, and am actually on the quieter side of a very busy couple weeks at work. The dashboard page should help me keep on top of my training -- telling me:

  • My last 7day, 30day, 90day running/cycling volumes;
  • When my next scheduled run is supposed to be;
  • Recent replies to my activities / comments;
  • Some placeholder buttons for generating some reports;

Other Goals:

This is going to be a bit of a pointform section -- trying to cover some high-level goals that I've set for myself.

  • Train for the Good Life Half Marathon in October.
    • Going well so far, despite catching a cold last weekend. Tough to run when you've got low energy levels and a congested head. I'm on the mend now though, and should be able to bang out a 30km week this week. Hoping to get out at lunchtime today.
    • For part of this -- I'm going to get out to the running track some time this week and HOPEFULLY bust out the done. Planning to have it follow me w/ the AI computer vision tracking -- and maybe I can review my form at different speeds / gaits.
    • On top of this -- this would be some solid starter content for experimenting w/ OpenPose libraries and my new NVidia Jetson Nano dev-board! If you've got some experience in tinkering w/ these, I'd love to hear it!
  • Continue climbing training -- would like to get back into leading 5.11 climbs again this season.

BE WELL AND STAY HAPPY!
