Postcards from Thailand #30: Cleaning the Pool
No. I don't have a swimming pool, but we do have a ball pool that gets freediving kids in each day who fill it with saliva, pee and occasionally puke. So it needs regular cleaning, and today was the day.
Obviously, with the wife being the professional and me, the unpaid, unskilled and unappreciated jack of all trades, it's down to me.
Firstly, it needs emptying so that means shopping 2500 plastic balls into bin bags before dumping them, a bag at a time into a bath of Dettol, quick stir and then onto the bathroom floor to dry.
I totally understand now, why every clinic I've ever been in smells of disinfectant or pee...
So my real complaint is the price of bloody Dettol. I can't remember ever buying it back in the old country but I doubt it was 50quid for 5litres like it is here.
This is my glamorous lifestyle on one of the world's most popular holiday islands. While most expats are relaxing by the pool with a beer, I'm cleaning a different type of pool with a bottle of Dettol...
...but the kids we have coming to us are next level awesome! I have so many tales to tell that I obviously can't.
I can say though, that we have 12 nationalities, 4 religions of assorted denomination and that Nathen's maths tutoring is the talk of the island ;-)
Life is good, and hellishly busy. So much for my peaceful semi-retirement.

You and me both… it did hurt quite a bit. That they refused me. I so wanted to settle there.
It's disgusting how they treat citizens who marry non citizens but your next destination will be just as beautiful albeit a little further to travel. The Guiness will be better though;-)
It is… they will feel it one day. As for so many people it is not understandable.

Thanks! I do use white vinegar and baking soda and lime juice all over the house but I still use the Detol in the clinic just to be sure!
White vinegar here is less than 2usd for 5 litres...it makes wonderful weed killer...but don't get me started on killing things again ;-)

What do you have against weed?
In Thailand, the Thai word is ganja...honestly, although written in Thai script. Even the FiL has given up growing his own as there are dozens and dozens of smoke shops where you can buy it cheaply and sample multiple strains.
The weeds however, must DIE
I'm so glad that I don't have kids and don't need to stop them jumping into those ball pool thingys. I don't even want to think how gross it is inside. Yuck!!

I also have the bathroom to clean too...at least twice a day. Fancy a visit ? ;-)
Ball pool? I’ve only seem those in the movies. Didn’t think that was a real thing. Lol. If you load the balls back into the pool again, can you be a nice fella and show me? Be nice, Nate. Be nice.
That disinfectant smell of clinics make me sicker than I actually am.
Bear with me and I'll show you, its not exactly grand. Just a playpen full of plastic balls. Kids love it though. If you ever come over, you can have a wallow with pleasure mate :-)

Guy not guys! Giving the order doesn't count as doing the job! I justbwait till the balls stick to an upturned palm and then decide its time ! One child seems to think it's an oversized litter tray...I'll leave it at that. Enjoy your dinner :-)

I don't know much about squid other than they spit ink so you might wanna employ google but 50 of them for ball cleaning supplies smells fishy.
Sorry. You triggered me into telling you an 'interesting' Thai squid ink fact.
They actually eat the ink here in dishes that have whole squid in them. Their mouths and lips then go black/blue and its extremely funny to the caudal observer ;-)
However. If you see someone with black/blue lips and they're not moving. It's possible they're dead as opposed to just having eaten squid :-)
