getting kind of frustrated with my lack of progress on pace

I've been jogging at least 3 times a week for several years now. I don't really push for mama speed when I am out there but I have been getting kind of irritated about the fact that I seem to get winded easier despite the fact that I have been kind of working at this for a while now.

I'm sure that some of this could be because of phone error but my last phone was suggesting that I was moving quite a lot faster than I am now. A few seconds here and there would be acceptable but if this phone is to be believed, then I am a full minute and half SLOWER per km than I was two years ago.

Maybe I've gotten bigger from all the weight training. I don't know what is going on

I don't normally look at my pace or even how far I have gone when I am actually running, I just kind of go with the flow and see what happens. I am at least somewhat familiar the way I am going though since it is a similar path every time. I don't feel like I am moving super slow.

The start of these things is the same. I get a bit too anxious at the beginning and go quite a bit faster then than I end up going for most of the rest of it. I know I am not fast but I really don't feel like I am a 9 minute per km guy.

I don't know how I could improve this. Perhaps I should start looking at my diet to see if I am not giving my body the correct fuel. It just doesn't make any sense to me that I would get slower the more I train.

I suppose since my primary focus is on weight training that I should just accept this slower pace.

thanks buddy. I think I need to look more closely at my diet. Since I focus primarily on weights, I tend to have little to no carbs in my diet. I think this might be holding me back.

I have a couple of paths that I take that are around 2.5 km per way, I will do this 1 or 2 times depending on how i feel after one time around. I now realize that I posted two different sets of stats from two different runs above but the end result is the same. 2 years ago i was pushing towards 6 mins / km and now I am barely breaking 8 mins.

I don't really know what to suggest. You could try some sprints now and then. The 'fartlek' method of improvising those is simple. Just pick a start and end point to see if you can improve. You can take as long as you want to recover. It is easy to get stuck at the same speed unless you consciously try to go quicker. Maybe listen to some faster music :) I expect with your muscular build you will never be super quick, but there ought to be scope for improvement. At least you are running.

haha, I was thinking this the last time I got home and was disappointed with my performance. In the past when I was doing 6mins/km I was listening to metal, but lately I have been on a more relaxed playlist the likes of Depeche Mode. Maybe that could be the answer.

If you have more body weight through weight training this is not going to help the pace. Maybe look into getting those shoes with the boosters which has like a spring mechanism. I can't remember the name of them, but they are real running shoes.

I learned about this last year due to seeing athletes breaking records and people believe it is the shoe doing the record breaking and not the athlete.
