"It's too cold to run!" ... say the same people that 5 months ago said it was "too hot to run."
I think one of the toughest hurdles to get past in the physical fitness game is admitting and identifying our own laziness. Most of us are lazy, even people like me that put quite a lot of their life into focusing on fitness to some level. It is not the focus of my life and that is why I refer to myself as a normie. I normally do just enough to ensure that I do not end up being a fat ass again but I am never pushing to achieve some sort of great goal in a triathlon or something like that.
That being said I have done triathlons but let's just say that my times were nothing to stop the press over.
Anyway, the other day I was having a conversation with someone that used to talk about his running prowess but very rarely actually proved it by going running. I was Strava friends with him and he was one of those people that tried to bite off too much too fast and he quickly burnt out and faded away to once again doing zero exercise at all.
These days he is just making excuses and the title of this blog is something that he said to me recently.

"It's too cold." I'm not going to lie, it is extremely cold where I live in winter, but just like the rest of the world that is on this latitude experiences something similar yet somehow, life manages to carry on. When I hear excuses from someone like this I get a bit irritated because not only is it NOT too cold to run but this guy is relatively affluent and can definitely afford a gym membership. The fact of the matter is that the weather aint got shit to do with why he isn't running, it's because he is lazy.
I've been a big believer ever since I dropped a bunch of weight in my early 40's that the hardest part about any exercise that any of us ever does is putting your shoes on and walking out your own front door. The rest of it kind of takes care of itself once you are already there. Of course in this instance it would probably be a good idea to have some leggings, a coat, and maybe even some gloves. Or you could take your rich butt down to the fitness center and maybe just walk kind of fast on a treadmill.
I'm sick of the excuses with people like this guy and he is also going to end up being someone that ends up on some sort of miracle cure diet somewhere along the line that is just going to make his situation even worse.
Another thing that is important to remember about a cold weather excuse is that your body has this wonderful capacity to produce its own warmth, particularly if you are putting forth some effort. My mantra during the winter months is "yeah it's cold, just run faster."
I actually prefer cold weather running to hot weather running because of exactly this. Stop with the excuses!
On some days I'm just too lazy to even wake up and on others I'm up before my alarm.
Indeed, dressing up and leaving ones front door is the hardest part.
haha... me too. But if I force myself to put my running clothes on i'm already half-way through the hardest part.
Getting past those excuses is more than half the battle.
But yes, I agree with you.

I would rather run when it is cold than when it is hot as it gives you even more reason to keep warm by running. Weather should not be an excuse but I do understand when it is too hot as you can do so many other activities instead.
I feel the same way. When it is too hot I feel like I could faint sometimes and when I do stop it takes ages for me to cool back down. When it is cold I start to feel truly cold only when I slow down and this inspires me to keep on truckin
