Al inicio se nos presenta un Gil Renard maduro, un vendedor de cuchillos cuya vida es un fracaso, tanto así que la relación con su esposa e hijo no es de las mejores. Sin embargo, solo hay una cosa que siempre está en su mente, ese elemento que inunda sus pensamientos representado por el béisbol; donde el jugador Bobby Rayburn está bajo su lupa y es su favorito. Rayburn ha ganado tres MVP, pero como todo lo que sube baja, siempre los jugadores pasan por una mala racha y son blancos fáciles de los medios y de los fanáticos, y aquí no se dará la excepción, ya que ese bajón es el motivo que hace explotar a Gil.

Como se hizo referencia al inicio, el director al momento de realizar esta adaptación, se basó en demostrar la locura de una persona que es capaz de perseguir e intimidar a personajes famosos; y lo que implica que una mente enferma pueda llegar a cometer actos violentos por el solo hecho de satisfacer sus fantasías, pensando que le están haciendo un bien a esa estrella, sea del deporte, del cine, o cualquier persona corriente de la cual se puedan obsesionar. En ocasiones estos psicópatas buscan una especie de fama momentánea apareciendo ante cualquier medio, sin importarles que después sean encarcelados, o pierdan la vida ante tal acción.

Lo cierto es que la historia atrapa porque es creíble, más aún si se trata de eventos que le pueden pasar a cualquiera, no es una trama del otro mundo, pero se puede disfrutar sin problema alguno; y así como le sucedió a Mónica Seles, nadie está exento de sufrir una situación de éstas; siempre hay un loco suelto. Al inicio puede ser algo lento, pero poco a poco nos vamos sumergiendo, ya que el ritmo del filme se va incrementando; y aunque es una película donde el deporte a demostrar es el béisbol, desde mi punto de vista solo se presenta como motivo para que cada actor nos presente su personalidad. Fácilmente el director pudo tomar un deporte diferente para realizar la adaptación, sin embargo, recordemos que el béisbol forma parte del arraigo norteamericano. Fuera de eso, lo que me emociona de la película es la intriga y el suspenso que se vive.

Si hablamos de los personajes Robert De Niro no tiene comparación, cada una de sus actuaciones son magistrales, es como si las tramas fueran hechas precisamente para él; porque es un actor tan natural que cada interpretación sencillamente no tiene desperdicio. Y en este caso no podemos decir lo contrario, porque aquí De Niro en su rol de psicópata lo hace muy bien, cada movimiento, cada gesto es digno de un actor de primera, solo deben verlo en esta película y podrán verificar lo que les digo. Unas de las partes que llamó mi atención de la película, y que demuestra el nivel de psicopatía de Gil, es cuando éste se encuentra en una reunión en la empresa de venta de cuchillos de caza, y su jefe le pide una demostración. Es entonces cuando Renard para constatar la calidad del producto, jajaja, lo encaja en la puerta de un carro para dejar por sentado que si funciona y no pierde su filo. Aquí nos damos cuenta de lo que puede ser capaz, un rolo de loco.

Por otro lado, tenemos a Wesley Snipes en su papel de jugador de béisbol y centro de la mirada de Gil. Snipes cumple a leguas su participación, desbordando su carisma y físico que hace referencia al estilo de un jugador real del área. Claro que siempre está serio, pero si nos damos cuenta de la trama, nada es un chiste. Con estos dos actores, ya sabemos de sobra que la película promete, y aunque no estemos en presencia de una acción explosiva, la historia, la intriga, y la locura, hacen que nos quedemos fijos a la pantalla. Ojo, Nada sería posible sin la presencia de Ellen, John, y Del Toro, quienes complementan de forma magistral esta fabulosa película.
