He is the first left-wing president in Colombia’s modern history, marking a major political shift in one of Latin America’s traditionally conservative nations.

🔹Early Political Involvement:

During his youth, Petro joined the M-19 (April 19 Movement), a leftist guerrilla organization that later transformed into a legitimate political party after a peace agreement with the government.
