What a fan what a friend baseball brings us together again!!! Greetings and Merry Christmas to the community of hive and @fulldeportes, I hope you have enjoyed the arrival of the baby Jesus together with your kids and family. In this delivery I want to share personal experiences in baseball in the clubhouse of the Leones del Caracas because my cousin brother was a pitcher of this team I talk about Ubaldo Heredia some sixties fans remember him, he was part of the pitching rotation with Urbano Lugo, Diego Segui, Luis Peñalver and players like Antonio Armas, Baudilio Diaz, Jesus Marcano trillo the golden age of the Leones del Caracas from there my love for this team was born, what a time those were! Where we could see North American players of great caliber that today are part of the Hall of Fame.

I used to go with my cousin at 3 o'clock in the afternoon to the stadium to watch the practices from the dugout, I was already one more player sharing jokes, jokes, advice from the most experienced players and every witticism you can imagine, I remember a game against the Tiburones de la Guaira, it was the last year of Victor (vitico) Davalillo as an active player, if I remember correctly there was a game situation where they needed a hit and as you know Vitico is the hit king in Venezuela his way of batting reminds us of the Japanese players and some journalists joked saying that Vitico had been in Japan teaching how to bat to the Japanese, The fact is that it was the last inning and Vitico as in all the games he was filling the crossword puzzle and drinking beer in the message room or pending of the game, at the moment he was called to take his turn as an emergent he was informed of the situation he went out to the field with the ovation of the fans he stood at the plate and with his peculiar way of batting he gave the hit he got to first and was changed by an emergent runner, he returned to the clubhouse to finish the crossword puzzle he was a hit machine.

Victor Davalillo

On Sundays, the game was at 1:00 p.m. After the game was over they would pick up the broken bats and use them as firewood to make sancocho or soup and share anecdotes among themselves and invite the imported players. When you arrived at the stadium you would find pool or "pollas" sellers, it was a sealed envelope with an action of any play that happened during the game, if you guessed right you would win double the price of the pool. We also got peeled orange sellers with a little machine that always caught my attention, these oranges did not always end up in the mouth but on the field as a protest to an appreciation of the umpire or a play of the opposing team, you could take the beer in a bottle to the stands not like now that they throw it in a glass, they sold plastic cushions for the area where there were no chairs which were not comfortable but it was better than sitting on cement bleachers, the cushions also ended up on the field.

Saludos.

There were betting benches among the fans, it was very rare to see women in the stadium, baseball was exclusive for men and not because it was so but because of the fights that were provoked among fans because of anything related to the game, the chairs were not numbered, and they could sit wherever they wanted. In the new times things have changed for the better, and we see entire families attending the stadium, groups of women with the shirt or cap of their favorite team, on Sundays it was for the children, they implemented the season ticket system to buy tickets for the entire season, the baseball league and the teams have been concerned in bringing a show of healthy fun and services to the fans to attend, I hope in the future to attend a stadium of the new times, but it will always be in my memory the university stadium where I had great experiences and memories of baseball. Until the next game. Best regards.
