Description from Strava: Really great to have this so close to home. I've been wanting to do some mountain biking/Cyclocross for a while but always find an excuse to not do it.
This was really good fun. I technically did the cross country (XC) cause I used a mountain bike and not the Cyclocross (CX). I rode out to the course yesterday and it was great to check it out with about 80% of the course being on grass, with only a small amount o technical or rocky terrain on the course. It was actually perfect for a starter like me.
This doesn't mean there wasn't some good riders out there. I started as far back in the field that I could have just hoping to not make a complete fool of myself. We needed to do as many laps of the course as possible in one hour. And thankfully I made it through almost two laps before some of the front guys were lapping me. I was fine on the uphills, but struggled in the more technical sections, which I knew was going to happen.
I dropped my chain on the third lap which cost me a minute or two and didn't actually come last, which I went into the race being ok with. I haven't seen the results yet but it was a really good workout and my arms and hands are really sore. Three more races for the season, so I'll hopefully make some small improvements in the next few months.

Well done. I've not done much off-road riding and I'd be nervous if it got too rough.

That's a nice distance, well done!
I'm a beginner as well, I'm amazed what part of my body hurt - I would've thought it would only be my legs but like you said, the most annoying thing are my hands that go numb after a while although it's not as bad anymore as on my first ride now I've got good riding gloves
