steevc just finished a 5.38km run, that lasted for 33 minutes.
This run helped steevc burn 406.0 calories.

Description from Strava:
I am trying to get back into more runs each week. That means doing some from work where we have changing rooms and showers. Stevenage is blessed with lots of cycle paths, but some may not know that you can duck under the A1(M) motorway and soon be in countryside. I had not been over there in a long while.

Just next to the motorway is a traveller caravan site. The track past that is a bit of a mess with various rubbish and the brambles have not been trimmed lately. Across the field past that I could see a white SUV that was parked at an odd angle. When I got closer I could see that it was in a ditch with all the windows smashed. I will not speculate on how it got there. I tried to take a photo, but my phone seems to have lost it.

There are various loops over the fields, but I did not want to go too far. The first part of the run was largely uphill and with a headwind, but the rest was not too bad. There are some nice trails through the woods. I only saw a few people around there. That does mean you need to be careful when running alone as you might not be found for a while if you fall.

There is a small sawmill in the woods that seems to still be in use. I assume they use the local trees, but they were not working today.

I was wearing some old Mizuno shoes that I keep in my desk drawer so I do not need to carry them in on the train. My bag was heavy enough with kit, lunch and laptop.

Once back in the industrial estate I took an extra loop to make it up past 5km. That was enough for today as I needed to get back to work.

I will aim to do more runs from work so that I am doing 3 or 4 over the week rather than 2 or 3. I would hope to get back to around 30km over those.

My niece likes her mizzuno stuff for softball. My wife has been trying to get some Brooks shoes, but they are just so expensive.

I got Mizuno shoes when I started running. I had no issues with them. There's just ridiculous choice in shoes these days. I'm mainly using Airbirds lately that are more ethical.

Interesting. I know eventually I am going to need to get a special pair of shoes that I keep just for use on the treadmill. Right now I am using my Asics that I also wear out and about occasionally.

Decent shoes do help for comfort and reducing injuries. I'm not sure which are best for a treadmill.

I'm sure if I Google it for a bit I will find a decent number of suggestions :)

I am so used to having people around if i am in the countryside with no one around I fear I might panic. I remember a night i was coming back from my friends place to my own. It was near city center of Ipswich and that night it was particularly empty, not even the emergency services vehicles going past. If I look back at it, that haould have been a nice 15min stroll through a pleasant and quiet night. However I remember how worried I was in the solitude. Most of my life i have stayed in Mumbai or Pune and these cities never really sleep.
Have you set the emergency services setup of your smartwatch?

Some cities can be dangerous. I've not really felt threatened when out running, but women running alone need to be more wary.

I've seen ads for Apple watches that can automatically send alerts if you have an accident, but my Garmin doesn't do that
Strava has the option to let people track you, but I've not used it.

How was the run uphill? Was it not stressful?
My heart beats fast when I’m running uphill

I have to get up the hill to go down it. Just part of the exercise.

Nice run! Sounds like some nice scenery with paths in the woods. Keep it up!

It does make you wonder when you a car or SUV with the windows all broken on the side or the road or a ditch. I've seen a minivan like that in the desert before, probably not a good sign that the owner was left in good condition...

I wouldn't think many people drive down that track apart from the farmers. It is possible it just got stuck there or that it was stolen and dumped.
