Description from Strava:
This is the 35th year of the local race that starts and ends at Standalone Farm in Letchworth. I have done a fair few of those since 2013 (I think). It is a fairly tough course with lots of ups and downs.

We had a lovely day for it with blue skies. I cycled over there. I was a little concerned that all my exertions yesterday would make it really hard for me. I met a few friends at the start from work and parkrun. Graeme and Rob started with me, but soon left me behind.

The start is downhill, but then you have the first of the climbs and it felt hard. It is nice running down the middle of a road with no traffic though. Running in a big crowd like that does inspire you and there were over a thousand runners.

The course mostly follows the main road out through Norton with a slight diversion that I assume helps make up the distance. I was maintaining a fairly good pace and trying to keep up with some other runners. We each have our own style of running with some being quicker at the start. I had tried to hold something back so I could keep going. There were a few times when I was tempted to walk, but I managed to keep running.

It all seemed to go by quite quickly, but the last straight seems to go on forever. Eventually you turn into Letchworth with the samba band on the corner to spur you on. Coming back down the start straight hill I was struggling to find more speed as others came past me, but once back into the farm I just went for it with a final sprint.

I was pleasantly surprises to see almost exactly 53 minutes on my watch as I crossed the line. That was quicker than I hoped for. The winners were about twenty minutes quicker, but they are on another level. I chatted to a few people before retrieving my bike for the ride home. That was hard work, but does have some nice downhill stretches.

I will be mostly resting today, but we are off to see the David Bowie movie Moonage Daydream later. I shall report on that in due course.

Run free!

I don't think I could run that fast on my own, but it shows what I can achieve. Maybe I need to do more races.

I'm just lazy to make the effort - race days are such a mission. I like to call myself the antisocial runner! But I should start making an effort again!

I'm a bit lazy as I just do local races. Others travel all over the country.
