Morning Run: Getting back into it

steevc just finished a 7.41km run, that lasted for 45 minutes.
This run helped steevc burn 558.0 calories.

Description from Strava:
I still seem to be adjusting back to being home again. My sleep is a little messed up, but other factors could be involved. It got hot yesterday, but at least it cools down a little at night. We got in the pool after dinner yesterday to chill for a while, but I did not swim much.

I finally got around to entering the Standalone 10k that happens in a few weeks. I have done it lots of times before, but may not be at optimal fitness. It looks like a fair few people from the local parkrun are doing it too.

Today was the usual outing up the hill to Fairfield. I vary it in which way I loop around the estate. It was widdershins (a word I learnt from Terry Pratchett). It is the same amount of climbing regardless.

The fun felt a little better than the last one, but was not much quicker. I did not see many others out running, but I did see our local race-walker Helen.

I should be doing parkrun at Henlow Bridge Lakes on Saturday and that will be my 100th event. This has been a long time coming, so expect an extensive write-up of that. I have already done 25 volunteer sessions. If everyone who runs there volunteered a couple of times each year it would make for less stressed organisers. A lot of those who help out would like to run more often.

Run free and have fun.

(Edited)

I am trying to get back to where I was before the holiday. The race is on 1st October. I don't expect to beat my best time, but it's a fun opportunity to run on closed roads with a thousand others.

BTW the picture behind me is of lots of Pratchett characters.

That's pretty cool! The pic was not showing yesterday from ecency, but I can sure see it now. The reflection distorts the photo a bit, but I see Death, The Witches, Moist and Adora Belle; I'm sure the others are here I just cant quite make them out! Very cool; where was this taken?

This was a print we got a few years back. It is by Paul Kidby who did the book covers.

This may be clearer. It's hard to avoid reflections.

We have a couple of shelves of Pratchett books and are still missing a few.

BTW I found a @captain-carrot account. Could be a fan.

Much clearer! Can see the watch guys, and Is that Rncewind in the middle? I recognise it as Josh Kirby's work from the covers, yeah! Very cool!

Aiming for this! I don't generally buy books new so always on the lookout for them at the markets and charity shops. I have picked up quite a few copies, with the old covers this way! My collection is nowhere near complete, but we keep adding!

bawhahahhaha! Ironically this is the account I created for my husband not too long ago! he is still resistant to using it. think he probs logged in once! But he is indeed a Terry Pratchett fan, you got that part right!

We found some hardbacks in a charity shop recently. For some we just had paperbacks, but one was a different hardback cover to what we had.

this is the account I created for my husband

Aha! Well I hope he finds reasons to be on Hive. I know not everyone is so into social media.

That's awesome! It's such a great feeling stumbling on those hardback treasures! Right now all my books are still in storage as we haven't packed them out since moving to my moms. I need to do some charity shop hoping soon!

I'd like to be able to complete a 5K some day. I am a long way from that though. @mrsbozz has expressed an interest in getting a treadmill again, so perhaps if that happens I might be able to accomplish my goal.

The Couch to 5k program is supposed to be good as a way to build up to it. I expect you would do okay if you work out regularly.

I might have to check it out. I have heard about it before. If I get a treadmill I'd like to start doing some HIIT stuff and see how that works out for me.

God is Terry Pratchett. I think I learned a lot of words from him!

Turnwise and Widdershins.

One day I will re-read all the Discworld books. That may take a year or two. He's popular in our family.

Very popular here too. I am reading the odd one after my daughter. Top notch stuff!

How do you feel when you don't run or take a long walk in a day? Weak?

It's no big deal. I'm not going to lose fitness and I need rest days.

Walking isn't easy in the hot weather, and it's especially difficult to keep up with the routine.
