Morning Ride - parkrun marshaling

I just finished a 4.703km cycling that lasted about 0hh:20mm:21ss !

As I have a 10k race tomorrow I was not planning to do parkrun, but as they needed volunteers I went along anyway to help out. That meant a cycle ride up the hill to Letchworth. I managed to beat my best time on the biggest climb of that ride today. I seemed able to use higher gears this time.

It was only today that I learned we have a new local parkrun at Henlow Bridge Lakes. That is even closer to me than the Letchworth course, so I now have a choice. Henlow is likely to be flatter, but may still get muddy. I know the course quite well from running and walking around there. Both runs had around 100 runners today, so not the biggest, but enough to be viable.

I was stationed on the first corner of the course, so I got to see the start. There were several tractors working on the fields around there and not long after the runners set off I could hear something coming down the track. It was a huge tractor moving quite slowly. I had concerns it might block the runners when they came around for the second lap, but it looks like it reached the fields just before then. It would have been dangerous for anyone to try to pass it as there was not much room.

The rest of the event went well. The field was well spread out with the last runners reaching me well after others had finished. Once the tail walker had passed I could leave. I did hang around to chat to people. Some others are doing the 10k tomorrow, so I may see them there.

On the way back I tried a different route that looked like it would get me home. It was a little longer than I expected and I was not sure where it would come out on the road, but it was not a bad ride. Those farm tracks can be rough, so a bike with suspension is useful.

Despite not running I was quite tired after all this. I had to go shopping, but I will be taking it easy before the race.

Run free and stay well..
