Morning Run - parkrun and theatre day

I just finished a 4.931km running that lasted about 0hh:26mm:9ss !

It was looking quite misty when I got up today. It was starting to clear a bit by the time I had some breakfast and jogged down to Henlow Bridge Lakes parkrun. I had a chat with my friend Graeme who was marshalling then it was off to the start.

I went off fairly quick and tried to maintain that speed. I tried to keep up with a couple of ladies, but lost them after we passed the finish for the first time. Then I mostly followed some guy. My pace was pretty consistent. On the last lap I decided it was time to pass that guy and head for the finish. Some others came past me after that. I am never sure why people should be behind me for most of the race, but then have the speed to zoom ahead of me. As I put on a sprint for the finish pace I passed an older friend, his wife and dog who were a lap behind. I was pretty happy to get this time as it was 40s quicker than last week.

A vlogger made this video of last week's event and you may spot me ahead of him near the start.

I was exhausted and walked the first bit home before jogging the other half. I had to get ready to go out as we had matinee theatre tickets for a show in London. We got the train there and the weather was lovely. We walked from St Pancras to the Gielgud Theatre in Shaftesbury Avenue with a stop for lunch in one of the leafy squares. There were masses of people around enjoying this really nice weather for the time of year. I have walked a lot around that part of London, so could show my other half some interesting sights.

We were seeing The Mirror and the Light based on the book by Hilary Mantel about Thomas Cromwell and Henry VIII. The set was really simple with concrete walls and metal frameworks to give the feel of a castle and the cast in period dress. I have not read the books, but I really enjoyed it. It was a fast moving show with lots of talking and quick scene changes as all they did was change the lighting or carry on some props.

After the show we walked back through Soho, which was also really busy. We ate at House of Seitan near the station. They do some really nice vegan burgers. I had a beer (Beavertown Neck Oil IPA) too that was very refreshing, so this may qualify for #BeerSaturday.. The station platform was heaving as trains were delayed for some reason. We ended up having to go up and over to the opposite platform for our train. By then my phone battery had died (it is an old phone) and I was tired after walking over 25k steps during the day. Luckily my son was able to pick us up from the station.

It has been a fun, but tiring day. Hope your weekend is good too.

Run free and stay well.
