Morning Run: Unleash the hounds

I just finished a 4.216km running that lasted about 0hh:26mm:7ss !

I wanted to fit in another run during my working week around Portsmouth, so I got up and out early today. I actually qualified for the Garmin Early Riser badge in their app. It was pretty dark out there. I had to be careful along the road as there is no footpath in places.

As I passed through the village of Northney I turned off into the track across the common that goes out to the coast. The path started wide, but was narrow in places between patches of gorse. I was not too quick today as I was finding my way and it takes a while to sort out my phone to take pictures. The water was like a mirror with some seabirds floating pot there and making some noise.

Coming back to the road I met some ladies with dogs. A large poodle came running up to me and barking. It nipped at my shorts and I did not realise at the time that it ripped a hole in them. I am sure this will amuse @dickturpin who seems obsessed with my 'Scottish' legs. No badgers were to be seen though.

I explored the village a little more before turning back, but it was quite a short run for me. It was getting a bit lighter by then.

I did get pretty warm despite it being cool out. I know I am not a super fast runner, but I do okay for someone of my age and I only get this quick through years of running several times each week. You have to put the effort in to achieve your goals. I am just not as special as some commenter seem to think. Maybe they think flattery will get them something.

I had a quick shower before a hearty buffet breakfast. I would not eat that much at home, but I had burned some calories.

Run free and stay well.

I used to enjoy exploring new areas when I was working away, but as you say, you do have to go a bit slower when you're finding your way.

I think you deserve credit for getting up so early and getting out on a work day, I know how tough that can be!

I've done plenty of exploring in my own area when running and when I'm elsewhere. On this trip I don't have much time for looking around, so the running has been good for that. It's a nice place for it, apart from the vicious dog.

Yes the dog didn't sound so great, at least it was only a nipper by the sounds of it.

Around here there are places I really can't go because people literally buy mean dogs to guard their Qunitas.

Where I used to live the neighbours dog had to be put down because it attacked two people.

It's fairly standard around here.

Anyone letting their dog run free has a responsibility. Maybe they did not expect anyone to be around, but if they cannot be sure then they should not do it.

There are some people of your age who can't even cover the distance you are taking so I must commend your effort

That poor dog! I bet it needed a tetanus injection after that!

Once it has a taste for nylon nobody is safe.

I can't believe you engineered an incident that would allow you to display those legs yet again! There should be a law against those thighs.

I'll be looking for excuses to show off these beauties in every post to entertain you. You're just jealous.

My Grandmother reckoned her side of the family came over with William the Conqueror, so you might be on to something.

I did a little bit of running this morning too. That is horrible about the dog. I hope the lady at least felt a little bad about it!

You are likely to meet some bad dogs out there. I've had others jump up at me. This encounter was not so bad really, but owners have to be responsible

We usually have our dog with us to keep us safe when we are out and about like that. She is kind of a wuss though, so I am not sure how intimidating she really is!

OMG! I'd have freaked out! I have an irrational fear of dogs. well, not totally irrational seeing they can rip holes in shorts (a few inches from thigh flesh 😮).

This dog looked excited rather than vicious. It didn't seem to go for flesh, but I may have been lucky. Small dogs can be worse. I do try to assess any dogs I see and stay clear where I can. Problem is the buggers can run so fast.

Yeah that's another issue. I didn't grow up with dogs like other people do, so I don't understand their emotions. I only learnt later about the wagging tails and their facial expressions etc. For me an 'excited' or 'happy' dog still appears as a threat haha.
