Morning Run: Frozen

I just finished a 8.809km running that lasted about 0hh:56mm:57ss !

A cool and clear morning for parkrun. This would be my 48th event. As I walked up to the station I met a couple of guys who had parked up there are they asked me if they were going the right way. They had come over from Ampthill and usually run as Marston Vale, which I have yet to run.

The ground was frozen solid in places and one of the lakes looked to be totally frozen over. I saw some anglers out, but it did not look like they could fish today. There were quite a few runners out despite the cold. Quite a few dogs there who get excited before the start.

I set off fairly quick and soon found that the usual mud patch was still soft. I just ran straight through it the first time as there were lots of people around and also the sun was in my eyes. We soon got spread out. I was trying to keep up with a few guys ahead of me. It always feels like hard work whatever I do, but I just try to keep on running.

I was still behind one of those guys on the second lap with the odd person passing us. I passed him and another guy on the last half lap, but he came back before the end. That does not really matter as we each run our own race. I did manage to speed up for the last stretch and was timed at just under 26 minutes. That is my third fastest time there and the best in a few months.

For a change I logged my whole outing, so there is some jogging at walking at the start and end. Strava picks up the segment for the parkrun anyway.

I am pretty happy with my run today. I need that sense of competing to push me on and improve.

Run free and stay well.

It helps to have a few people around to push yourself to go faster. Even if you're not directly competing, people generally influence your behavior to make you move faster or slower depending on the situation. Sounds like trying to keep up to those guys helped push you to a faster time.

It's my only real exercise and doing it socially helps motivate me. We each do our own thing.
