CFC Specials - Pochetino on Chelsea defeat at West Ham

The defeat to West Ham today was amazingly painful. Off which we expected too much from the players who might also need time to play together having been brought from different spear of football.

The Blues dominated for big sections of the game against West Ham United and had plenty of possession in their end, but we were unable to turn it into points as goals at the start of each half and a late penalty sent us home losers 3-1. Although we did draw 1-1 with Liverpool last week, it was a similar tale to this week in that we appeared to be the superior team but were unable to secure the victory.

Pochettino, though, thinks that if we keep at these levels, the results will come as his young team starts to gel. He would rather be playing well than the opposite at this early stage of the season. Meanwhile, one of the stand out performer in the defeat tonight in the Chelsea setup was aided out of the field with injury.

We thwarted West Ham and Liverpool in ball possession, so I prefer to start this way by demonstrating good performance. I believe the attitude is there; the fact that we entered the final third 50 times today demonstrates a positive approach, and the same was true when we played Liverpool. That is the foundation for the future; given the calibre of the team, it is only a matter of time before we start to strike the right balance, start scoring goals, and start winning games. Additionally, our head coach mentioned certain crucial instances that went against us, complicating our task and bolstering West Ham's confidence. In fact, had Alphonse Areola not stopped Enzo Fernandez from scoring from the penalty spot just before halftime which could have sent us into halftime with a lead, he notes that things could have gone very differently.

We are quite enthusiastic about the group we are assembling, as I mentioned after Liverpool and it remains the same. We will become stronger as a result of the loss and be able to play better in the upcoming games. There were a lot of good things, but we now need to move forward. We will strive incredibly hard to win on Friday and put on the performance we want to, regardless of the outcome.
