CFC Specials - Pochetino on what Chilwell brings to the team

Ben Chilwell is a versatile player who can operate in a more advanced role than the current left back that he is embedded in at Chelsea and national team and am glad he is also seen to be capable of same role in the national assignment.

Ben Chilwell has been used this season in a more advanced role, and Mauricio Pochettino has revealed why. Our head coach spoke exclusively to Chelsea channels about our season's start, working with Academy players during the international break, and where there is opportunity for growth as the Premier League's return approaches. Pochettino also explored playing Chilwell as a winger, a substitution that was initially considered due to a lack of available players.

The loss of players due to injury is disappointing for the coaching staff as a whole, but Pochettino emphasised that the club must accept it and adjust. Injury to Nkunku, Lavia, Broja and other attacker has forced our hands to try Chilwell on the left wing of Chelsea attack which should have been fruitful if goals has been coming in instead of only possession.

In order to achieve the optimal balance, we need to discover solutions that involve different players playing in various roles. Ben is a full-back who can assist the group in another area. He has produced more opportunities than any other player in four games. Ben played a similar position last week for the national team. So it made his job easy in the Chelsea shirt having been in the similar role with different calibre of playings than the ones in Chelsea team.
