Major Change To Strava2Hive
Hey everyone,
I've been posting about the issues the service has been experiencing for a while now and can advise I have finally moved away from posting any images to the Hive Blockchain using the API. And now, all images will be linked to your post, meaning they will no longer be hosted on Hive, but linked from the original sause.
What Does This Actually Mean
Not too much from the users perspective. This was a change I originally added when this issue started coming up, to use links from Strava for images you have posted there, instead of uploading. There was an issue with the original screenshots, now maps and cards, as this was still using the Hive API.
As a result I am now uploading these images onto AWS and storing them in an S3 Bucket, and linking from this storage to the Hive posts. But this does mean that potentially as time goes on, the bucket could become very large, resulting in delay in service the images and possibly a cost incurred by me.
Let's see how things go for now and hopefully it will all play out all right. I have just ticked over 4 years on the Hive Blockchain, so hopefully this will now mean many more years to come.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Have you talked to other Hive developers about things like image storage? There may be alternatives for that. I do think you have done great work in keeping this project running. Thanks for all you do. Of course we need lots more runners on Hive to make i bigger.
