IPL Boundary Blackjack - Round 2, Match 5 KKR v SRH
After a frantic weekend of 4 IPL games, it almost feels like a bit of come down to return to a game a day.

For PBKS, they could keep the good times rolling with a 3rd win on the bounce as they look to follow up their successful 2025 with another playoff finish. The franchise has never reached the playoffs in successive seasons.
It was the case of another win batting 2nd last time out at the Chepauk where their bowlers did well to restrict CSK to 209 on what was a flat wicket. It could have been even better but for a couple of dropped catches which just allowed their opponents back into the game.
When it came their turn to bat, Priyansh Arya, coming on as an impact sub, opened the batting and creamed 39 from 11 balls, hitting 7 boundaries in the process. His short but sweet knock turned the momentum of the match and ultimately made what should have been a close finish into a bit of a walk in the park.

The Kings will be a little concerned that none of their top 4, who all made contributions, were able to see the job through. Cast your mind back to their opening win against GT where something similar happened as they invited some late, unnecessary pressure.
On current form, you'd back their hitters to get after this Knight Riders bowling attack who have conceded 220+ in both their IPL 2026 games to date.
The match sees several of the league's top spinners go head to head, although their respective form in the early stages of the season is very different.
Chahal bowled with beautiful control and variety to concede just 21 from the 3 overs he bowled against CSK, claiming the key wicket of captain Gaikwad in the process. In a match where every other bowler went at over 9s it was a masterclass of slow bowling from the tournament's all-time leading wicket taker.
On the other side, we have Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy. As we've seen in many seasons of the IPL, batsmen don't often like to take risks against Narine and so it proved in the match against SRH with even their ultra-attacking opening duo happy to take just 3 from his opening over in the PP.
However, Chakravarthy was given no such respect with Head and Abhishek taking him for 25 runs in his first over. Rahane got him back into the attack after several quick wickets allowing him to salvage his figures to some extent but on current form, one of KKR's potential trump cards is looking like a liability.
That is putting significant pressure on other areas of the team. Muzarabani and Aurora have picked up wickets and Tyagi has bowled with genuine pace but all 3 are conceding the best part of 2 boundaries an over.

Again, KKR's batsmen have generally done ok. 220 in the opening game against MI and they were well in the game verus SRH before a couple of run outs cost them and their lower order was never able to keep up with the scoring rate.
Finn Allen has faced 24 balls and hit 14 of them to or beyond the boundary. How KKR would love him to bat for a bit longer in this match and really hurt the opposition. Raghuvanshi's back to back half-centuries have been full of classy shots too.
However, Rahane and Rinku Singh have both struggled to get going, while big money acquisition Cameron Green has scored just 20 runs to date and of course, isn't contributing with the ball.
KKR desperately need some of their experienced players to turn-up and get them the win in this match. 3 losses on the trot will be difficult to recover from.
Can we expected another high-scoring match here at Eden Gardens? Recent history suggests so.

When these 2 teams met at this venue last season, PBKS scored 29 boundaries batting first in a score of 201 before the rain came an over into KKR's reply (30 boundaries total is just visible on the graph above).
The forecast for today does suggest there is a chance of further disruption with a heavy band of showers moving through the region from late afternoon all the way through the evening. Definitely one to watch for IPL BB!
Earlier on in that season, the Kings and KKR played out a very low scoring match in Punjab with the hosts defending just 111 by bowling KKR out for 95. I'd be surprised if we saw anything that low on this surface in Kolkata! No side has scored under 174 in the first innings of the last 8 IPL matches played here.
Going back to 2024, PBKS chased an incredible 262 to win here at Eden Gardens with 79 boundaries being scored in the game.
It suggests that an inform Punjab have a mental edge over their opponents today as they look to go top of the table with 3 wins from their first 3 games!
