Fort Taber/Fort Rodman

Fort Taber/Fort Rodman

Good Morning, today I will share a few shots of the Fort in Fort Taber Park here in New Bedford.

I often go to this spot for an early morning walk, getting there early and sometimes getting some shots of the Fort in the semi dark and then heading to the beach for the sunrise, but not often getting shots of the fort itself when there is more light.

With sunrise getting quite early, and me trying to make sure I get over 10K steps in each day, I have stayed in the park after sunrise and walk around the outskirts of the park and the Fort getting my steps in

the name of the park and the fort can be contentious when I share on Farcebook I nowadays just say the fort and dont use either name if I call the park Fort Taber, people jump on me saying it is fort Rodman and the same for the fort structure itself, but this is what I have found online

Also known as the Old Stone Fort, Fort Rodman (known as "Fort at Clark's Point" until 1898) began construction in 1857 under the third system of US fortifications, and in 1862 construction became overseen by Henry Robert, author of Robert's Rules of Order and an Army Corps of Engineers officer. The fort, as built, had emplacements for 72 cannon in three tiers; a fourth tier was originally planned, but this was removed from the design to allow more timely completion. Construction was halted in 1871, and the fort as planned was never completed.

Sadly its not in good shape these days and they do not allow people to go inside the fort, I hope that one day they may restore it

Let me start with an early morning shot when it is still fairly dark

Good morning, Mr. @tattoodjay

This place is truly beautiful. I really like the architecture of the buildings; the stones make it look beautiful.

Have a beautiful day.

Kaliningrad has 15 old forts. Of course, I haven't visited all of them, but I want to tell you about some of them in the near future. Damn, these are very interesting places. This is the story itself.

Nice shots! It really is a shame they don't renovate the interior so people can go inside. However, that requires funding which is the hard part! I like the darker to lighter shots. The fire hydrant really does brighten up!

There is a fair bit of green growth on the roof, I am guessing it is just natural and not camouflage. Interesting to see nature coming back.
