When you said "drones", I initially thought that you were referring to those flying electronic devices normally outfitted with a camera, though I figured out that you meant something else deeper !INDEED. ๐คฏ๐ค

Since I love playing, I very often encounter NPCs in games, and their actions are normally only staying in one place or patrolling the same areas over and over (until the end of the respective game). ๐ฎ I occasionally think that some NPCs in multiplayer games are possibly controlled by ("real") humans! ๐

Very curious. I already answered this reply, but Engage just took me here once again, and there is no reply, so Ecency's nonsense is rearing it's unpleasant head once again. What I said in my previous (disappeared) reply, how is that any different from most people going about their habitual routine every day, often with no thought or awareness? They used to do that in Asheron's Call with NPCs every now and again. ๐๐๐โจ๐ค

While I love playing, there still are many games that I am not aware of, such as the one you mentioned on your comment there. ๐คฏ I wonder what you were referring to with the phrase "used to do that", whether it's the NPCs or PCs (player characters), or both. ๐คฏ๐

Asheron's Call was a massive-multiplayer online game that went on for years under Microsoft, then when it was sold to Time-Warner (I think), they ended it. It had quite a large following. I meant that the admins would sometimes 'take over' certain NPCs and play them for a while, to unfold various story lines. ๐๐๐โจ๐ค

I'd say that in those cases, if it's any kind of massive-multiplayer game, that admins are likely logging in and having some NPC fun. ๐๐๐โจ๐ค

It would seem more !FUN (probably more for the game masters than the players themselves) if the game masters disguised as NPCs make powerful attacks that bring the player characters' health down to zero (and destroy/steal some items too)! ๐ฎ๐คฏ๐คฃ

I don't know, I kind of like the idea of players teaming up to battle a boss NPC being played by an admin. ๐ ๐ ๐ โจ ๐ค

If that "boss NPC" gets played by a game master or admin, then it no longer remains as an NPC until its human operator logs out !INDEED. ๐ฎ๐คฏ๐ค

I wonder which among the NPC being played publicly known or secretly by a game master/admin is more !FUN (for the players or for the game admins) though. ๐คฏ๐

Who knows? Fun is rather subjective, and if you're asking a question then you need some way to measure the level of fun, which I'd say would be quite challenging indeed, so it's a mute point. ๐๐๐โจ๐ค

Perhaps those game masters can have a survey of the players who fought game masters as NPC boss enemies, whether such game masters control those NPCs publicly or secretly. ๐ค In the case of secret NPC control though, they should make the survey only after they announce that they indeed took control of such boss monsters. ๐ค
!ALIVE
That seems like a reasonable methodology for collecting useful game data to improve game play. ๐๐๐โจ๐ค
!ALIVE
Survey results can be inaccurate though, as some players could simply try to finish such survey as quickly as possible, especially when anticipating rewards for completing such activity !INDEED. ๐คฏ๐ค

Unfortunately many people are takers and users, with only a few being givers and builders. ๐๐๐โจ๐ค

In surveying people in general, there should be no (direct) reward (or at least an expectation of reward) to make it more likely for the respondents to answer honestly. ๐งโโ๏ธ

People could be rewarded, just don't tell them that they'll be rewarded. ๐๐๐โจ๐ค

In the case of (online multiplayer) games, the players won't take the survey at the same time, such that some of the first players who answer such surveys and get rewarded would tell about such rewards to others, so the rewards would quickly no longer be a surprise. ๐คฏ๐
OK, then make rewards random, some get rewarded, some don't, and nobody knows whether they will or they won't be. ๐๐๐โจ๐ค

Then just give up on the idea of using surveys at all. Create a framework for players to leave their ideas and suggestions, and be done with it. ๐๐๐โจ๐ค

I knew a few (multiplayer online) games where reporting bugs (as well as typos, no matter how minor) in the game would reward every player that makes such report, regardless of how many players have already reported such bugs before. ๐ค

I know that you mean that the longer a particular problem (even a minor typo that is not at all gamebreaking) exists, the more rewards players will get. ๐ค Those accumulated rewards might cause inflation of the game's in-game currency, for which developers must create even more fun items to compensate for the inflation. ๐
