Devil's Tower - My Actifit Report Card: June 11 2025
Finally a nice day off from our volunteer work for a trip over into Wyoming to visit the spectacular Devil's Tower National Monument.
There was a large crowd of people there but the hiking was easy along the 2 mile paved loop around the base of the formation (a 60 million year old igneous intrusive plug) which had been a center of Native American spirituality for millennium (the various northern Plains tribes consider this place sacred and there are countless prayer offerings among the rocks and trees.
It was a moderate hike for my wife but she loved the energy of the tower but there are NO PETS allowed on the trail so poor Lulu was stuck back at the car and had to settle for a mile around the parking areas.
We got back early enough for me to put in 5 and a half miles on the woodsy bike trails near the campground. Better than he road as the twisting path is mellow and perfect for some off-road running.
Back to volunteering tomorrow but I hope to hike a trail that will be the course for an upcoming 6 hour ultra in August.
Thanks for your report. I want to hike there when I grow up !LOLZ
