FIBA begins on Aug 31st in China this summer. The worldwide basketball tournament will include 32 countries, who qualified during other competitions over the previous two years.

Over two weeks of basketball!

Those worried that #basketball was over after the #nba championship can rejoice. The #fibaworldcup, not to be confused with FIFA World Cup, starts in just 42 days. During which 92 games will be played in 16 days. This is the first time #fiba will be held in China, although the famous championship has been going on for 18 years now. Many NBA players will play for their various national teams, however not every superstar will choose to play. USA is projected to win for the third time in a row, having won in both 2014 & 2010 previously.

They tried to tell me basketball season was over. I said I need to have sports news so I can keep posting on #sportstalk.

The gods have spoken, the FIBA Basketball World Cup starts at the end of August. As you may have guessed, USA is ranked #1. One thing you may not be able to guess is who is most likely going to be their starting 5....

I agree, USA is always so stacked in basketball. However Spain is very relevant too, so are several other teams.
Don’t forget, Spain beat USA in this same tournament in 2006.

Canada is ranked 23rd...What a disrespect.

I hope we prove them wrong. Obviously the US and Spain are power houses....But Canada is brewing some great talent now...Jamal Murray is just the beginning!!!!

Gonna be a fun tournament even if all the NBA stars dont play in it.

I think most games will be competitive. Sure USA may trounce a few teams, but you never know. Some teams just have that chemistry or one or two players that’s could have a hot night and take over.

It’s a shame, I think Wiggins bailed on Canada for this.
He played high school ball in the same town that I went to college in. He used to practice in the rec center where I went.

Yeah Wiggins isn't too popular in Canada these days lol

Jamal is our star right now lol

I don’t know if Wiggins will last the entire season in Minnesota. I feel like he’s gonna get shipped out somewhere.

Jamal is playing with one of the greatest passing big men of all time in Jokic. That team is going to show out again next season.

Yeah man, that's my sleeper pick in the west....Everyone is in love with the LA teams...I think Denver and Utah will have something to say

Both Utah & Denver have a nice duo dynamic going. They could shake up the West if given an opening.

Jazz defense is fire. The Conley move was the perfect move for them. But I like those Nuggs way better. They looked good for their first deep run in the playoffs. Hopefully they can bring Iguodala back in the fold. He's exactly what they need. Veteran with a championship pedigree to school up the young uns.

Jazz could stump the LA teams if they hold their defensive wall through the entirety of their games.

I agree with the Iggy comment, plus the fact that he’s played in Denver before. He shouldn’t have a problem stepping in and showing them how to finish in the playoffs, not just impress and then lose.

The drama basketball continues...
I read it somewhere that AD will not join.
He is staying to prepare his Lakers seasons with Bron.
USA can even delegate a college team to play, not sure if they can win.
Having such a caliber of players worldwide playing in the NBA, it is truly a showcase for the NBA alone.
More basketball 🏀

It’s oossible AD will sit out, these rosters are not finalized.

I’m just hyped I will get to watch some basketball this summer. The games will be at weird times that fit into my schedule too since it’s all the way in China.

Are you kidding me? How in the heck did the top 3 teams - USA, Spain, and France - all get put into the same initial bracket?!?!

I will admit, the “Draw Procedure of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019” video was very confusing. Such a complex selection process.

The top 3 teams aren’t all in the same group, although it did seem that way at the start of the video.

You should download the FIBA app for iOS or Android. They have the full schedule on there and it’s much easier to understand.

Here are the first matches for USA, Spain, France, and China. I made it easy for you. Still go download that app, it allows you to make predictions for each game.

Oh, okay, I got it. Some kind of pot system. China as host gets to avoid the powerhouses. So lucky!

I'ma try and go to that USAvIRAN game. Should be quite the political thing.

Yes, China can run for a bit.. but they cannot hide forever. Eventually they will face one of the big three, if they make it that deep into the tournament.

China's team is awful. They probably won't do anything until they give in and let Stephon Marbury be the national team coach. And Yao gets involved in the training regimen. As it is, they just prioritize slow plodding 6'10" guys who can't even get physical. Those types are aight in the international game but you need a diversity of players to be successful. Their PG for a while was Sun Yue, who was a slow plodding 6'9" guy who actually rode the pine for one of the Kobe/Pau championship teams.

Anyway, the China bracket is weak af. Poland, Venezuela, Ivory Coast. They might be able to advance. But I wouldn't bet on it! 😂

Hmm, if China advances, then the Great Wall will collapse 🤣😂
Doesn’t sound like they are a very realizable squad. I know Marbury is huge over there, but I get the feeling they’d never let him be head of their team for the simple fact that he’s from USA. Do you know if he is on the coaching staff already?

He was just named head coach of his last CBA team in Beijing (although not the team he won 3 championships with). The foreigners on the team currently include CBA legend-in-the-making Shavlik Randolph and Pierre Jackson. I’d say he’ll be in the running for head coach of the 2023-24 China national team.

Damn, 3 championships. Starbury really is a boss over in China.
That’s awesome that you all are so welcoming of him to be the head of the team. I hope he does get the position on the national team.

Good call on that app, bro. That video is crazy misleading. At least the USA team gonna be in Shanghai. I wonder how expensive the tickets will be. NBA exhibition games here go for a couple hundred bucks. 😢

What’s funny is that the video was on their official YouTube page. They would have been better off just showing who plays who, not explaining why.

That app is going to be very useful once the games start.

In Shanghai, that means you will be able to attend. Correct?
As long as the tickets aren’t outrageous.

Well after doing a search on google, the first website that showed as a result had the cheapest ticket set at $260. No way would I pay that for a damn game I can watch on tv.

you do great with your sports research and information. I love USA basketball, but don’t know much at all about world teams, so thank you for all the knowledgeable details. I’ll definitely watch some and follow this tourney. I will admit the FIBA basketball looks weird to me, I cannot get used to it’s look. Thanks again 😊
