Are You Asking The Wrong Question? - Self Defense

A: So you are learning martial arts. Let's go to the street and beat a guy. Let's see what you are capable of doing.

B: Well, do you think you have to beat an innocent person to prove that you can beat someone? We learn martial arts not to hurt others but protect us from getting hurt. No matter who you are, you have no right to hurt innocent people.

X: He is a big and strong guy. How to beat him and win the fight?

Y: Why do you want to beat that guy?

X: He is big and ugly. Maybe he is a bad guy.

Y: Okay, he is a big guy. You do not like his appearance. He does not do anything to hurt you, but what you think about that guy, that's your imagination.

How you think, that has an impact on everything you do. People learn martial arts and they can have many reasons for that. Some people learn martial arts to get health benefits, some people learn martial arts as sports and participate in the fighting competition. Some people learn martial arts for self defense.

You are learning martial arts. It is not that you have to prove what you are capable of doing. If you have a fight with someone only to show what you can do and then hurt him, that's something you will regret later.

Yes, you can fight to test your skills. It helps you realize what you should focus on to get better. That's absolutely alright. It is not for hurting him or have a bad intention behind it. When you learn martial arts, you often have to fight with other martial artists. Your teacher will show you what you should do or what you do not do right or you can do against a particular strike.

In your martial arts training, you learn how to strike and defend yourself. You use your skills only for self defense. If some random dudes think that you are a nice guy and that's a weakness. Then he picks up the wrong guy. Martial art is to stop the violence, not to create more.

We all want to live a happy life. We love our family, friends and other people. Let's spread the love. Thank you so much for reading this so far. If you like martial arts and want to learn more about self defense, you can check out some of my recent posts.
