When we learn to defend a knife in the training, you will find a huge difference if you see how a knife is used to attack in the street fight. It is not one clear and direct knife attack and then you defend that, make a nice lock and disarm the knife. Things get complicated and difficult.

I usually share a video that makes it easier to explain the situation and easy to understand. Well, I do not always agree with everything that said in the video. Sometimes I have different opinions. And sometimes I also share alternative techniques that can be used in that situation for sell defense.

Whether sometimes I do not agree or have a different opinion, I respect all martial artists and self defense instructors. What they are doing, that's great. Let's watch this video.

Any time you have any system, but has an A-B-C or 1-2-3 sequence is fake.

I do not agree with that completely. When you teach your students, you try to make easier for them to understand and learn. That's why sometimes you break the whole techniques into A-B-C or 1-2-3. It is very important to make the movement correct. Otherwise, it will not work in a fight.

I agree with everything that said in the video except the one I mentioned above. Now when your students learn how to do it, you teach them what could be the variation of attacks and how they can deal with that.

Yes, it is true that when someone attacks you with a knife, the attacker will not hold the knife over there so that you can grab, turn and lock his hand. It will be fast and aggressive. It is important to know what's going on in real-life situations. Then you will be in a better position to face the situation and defend yourself. And that' what I'm trying to share on my blog posts.

nice post, self defense and martial arts are great. IMO is it perfect for balance the daili workout in a more fun way ( i only do simple martial arts like taekwondo and boxing, less knife defend stuff :))

When we talk about martial arts and self defense, we usually talk about serious stuff. Yes, you can practice drills or a set of strikes and have some fun. When you love something, that's fun for you to do that. I like boxing and Taekwondo.
