Letchworth parkrun: Still muddy

I just finished a 5.024km running that lasted about 0hh:27mm:37ss !

It has been a while since I did a parkrun due to my cold, but I thought it was time to get back there. The mud on the Letchworth course can be intimidating, but I decided to brave it anyway. The ride over there was not too bad, but I need to do more cycling as I am sure it uses difference muscles to running. Some parts of the track were very muddy, so I was expecting the course to be bad.

Tomorrow is International Women's Day so they had a mostly female marshal team. Before anyone asks, International Men's Day is November 19th. There was also someone doing his 100th run and be brought along some cake. To encourage more participation they had someone leading a walking group as not everyone feels up to running.

The first part of the course is fine, but had more puddles than usual. Then you reach 'carnage corner' and start the long climb. The muddiest parts are at the top of the hill and it was a choice of find a way around or just splash through. I did a bit of both. My kilometre splits are a bit up and down, but I was basically a lot slower up the hill than on other parts. I am still a little lacking in energy and I hope that is just due to my cold.

I finished in 25th place in somethind around my average time for the course. It was a smaller field than usual, but maybe people are just put off by the conditions. I had my piece of cake and headed home.

I was shopping later. I had heard that some people had been panic buying toilet rolls and handwash due to the coronavirus scare. The handwash shelves were empty and the toilet roll aisle was fairly bare, but was being re-stocked. I could get all I needed. We are not hoarding for now, but we generally have enough food to keep us going for well over a week. Stay safe out there!

You have uploaded 102 running activities, and 19 of them have been of similar distances (within 10 percent)!
Here are your 5-fastest running activities of a similar distance:

Over these 19 similar activities, you have travelled approximately 97.27 kms at an average pace of roughly 5:17 min/km!
Your latest run was at a pace of approximately 5.497min/km!
Looks like you went a bit slower this time! Remember that it's important to take some rest days, and do some rehab / prehab / strength and conditioning training too! If you weren't intending to go slower, take a moment to listen to your body, and see if you need something. Check in with yourself!

I'm hoping that you at least had underwear on...

I could tease that I was naked, but I was wearing shorts. I very rarely feel the need for long trousers when running, even in winter. Those would just be another thing that needed washing. I took my socks into the shower to get the worst of the mud out of them.

Well done! This sounds like quite a tough course with extra mud thrown in. I do admire the fact that you can run well after cycling.
Keep up the good work

I was not expecting a good time today, but I have run well there in better conditions. The ride is a good warm-up, but sometimes seems to take too much out of me, especially since it's largely uphill on the way there.

(Edited)

Pretty damn good comes out to around a 9 minute mile. Plus, it was tough course. Wish I could do that on my runs. More like 13 minute per mile lol

I have got quicker since I did my first parkrun 2 years ago. I started running late, so I think I can still improve.

That's a sexy photo at the top there :) We have yet to enter hoard mode either. We haven't had a case yet in our state though, so it is hard telling what will happen. I am hoping that by the time it makes its way to us they have a better handle on it and more of an understanding of how it behaves.

I was wearing shorts. There have been some cases fairly near us. I think some had been to Italy. We will keep an eye on supplies, but others will go crazy anyway.

You need to stake more BEER (6 staked BEER allows you to call BEER one time per day)
