History of the German F1 Grand Prix

The German Grandprix has one of the longest racing history in the F1 calendar with over 75 races held in Germany. The first German Grandprix was held in 1926 at the AVUS (Automobil Verkehrs und Übungs-Straße) circuit in Berlin.

In 1927 it moved to Nürburgring. In 1931 they started to use the most notorious cuircit in F1 history - the 14.2-mile (22.8 km) Nordschleife. It was located in the Eifel mountains, with narrow unprotected roads through valleys and forrests and nicknamed by three-time world champion Jackie Stewart as "The Green Hell".

Despite several safety modifications to the circuit over its 49 year history it was cancelled in 1976 in which Nikki Lauda suffered severe burns and almost died. Several other drivers suffered serious injuries over the years.

In 1977 they moved to the Hockenheim curcuit which was remodelled and shortened in 2002. In 1985 and since 2007 it the German Grand Prix has occasionally been held at the new 2.8-mile (4.5 km) Nürburgring Grand Prix circuit, a substitue bulit for the old Nordschliefe.

German F1 Grand Prix 2019

Lewis Hamilton has 3 German GP wins in the last 8 years with Mercedes and McLaren Mercedes. It's safe to say he does well on this track. Given the fact that it's Mercedes's home race Hamilton and the team will give their best to win it.

Hamilton is also coming of 7 wins out of 10 races that were held so far in 2019. Valteri Bottas won 2 races and Max Verstappen won one race.

Hamilton's win at Hockenheim

It's hard to see anyone else winning the 2019 German Grand Prix other than Hamilton. Personally I would hope Ferarri can improve and challenge. It would be nice to see Charles Leclerc get his first win but realistically Hamilton and Mercedes are well on their way to a record sixth Drivers’ and Constructors’ Championship.
